Re: what kind of basketball shoes to get for comfort, traction, and around $100?
I have used a ~$40 pair of Reebok bball shoes for a year and the right shoe started to tear apart near the toes.
But you're welcome to recommend me a $50 pair.Comment

IMO any shoe over $50/$60 (and that's probably too high of a threshold),unless it's hand made, you're just paying for the name/style.Comment

People's feet are so different. Just go to the mall and try on every pair of shoe there under $100. I believe $100 is your budget's limit right?.
FWIW, I haven't paid over $75 for a pair of balling shoes in years. I just order them online and take them back to a store if I have a problem with them.Comment

Buy a pair of Zoom BB1's on eBay, you should be able to get them for under $70 and they are the best basketball kicks I've ever worn. I own three pair and will probably buy more."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Like you said, comfort is up to the person, but chances are you are going to find something just as good at a cheaper price that doesn't carry the same name. It's up to you if you want to pay for the name.
The markup on name brand shoes (or all name brand clothing) is out of this world. No way a pair of Jordan's costs $100 more to make than a $50 Nike basketball shoe.Comment

Most high end dress shoes are hand assembled or hand stiched and/or they use higher end materials than a cheaper shoe, but still your going to pay more for a pair of Cole Haan's because their Cole Haan's the same way you pay more for Jordan's that are made of same stuff as a cheaper shoe.

You can get great deals on name brand shoes online. I go through at least 2-3 pairs of bball shoes a year and I buy them almost exlusively off finishline.com. They always have coupons and have a good sale section. When they don't fit as well as I like I take them back to a retail store.
I haven't liked a Jordan shoe design in so long, other than the retros.Comment

Re: what kind of basketball shoes to get for comfort, traction, and around $100?
The last few years I have been buying the previous seasons top sneakers on eBay, it is the best way to go IMO. You can get most great performance shoes for 50% off or more (I'm lucky since I wear 15.5-16 so most sellers slash prices even more on big sizes) so I'll buy a few different colorways for $150 and be all set for the year. Jordan's are probably the only sneaker this strategy won't work with (I've see Kobe's and Lebron's for cheap) but if all you're concerned with is performance then it's a home run."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

You can get massive traction even on a dirty floor with these.
Also the Nike Hyperdunks - $90 and nice and light, bottoms out kinda fast though.
More suggestions:
Zoom Phenom - $90
Blue Chips - $60
Jordans are cool but not the team or the Retros to hoop in, poorly made. I cant recommend any other brands, I dont wear them, except for the Reebok Questions. Those are nice but the traction sucks on a dusty floor.
Check Eastbay...they always have shoes on sale for hoopin.
