    Removing Ear Wax Buildup

Throughout my life, I have suffered with my ears. Countless earaches, I have had tubes twice and ear infections are a dime a dozen.

My right ear has always been the worst and I barely hear from it. I went to the doctor to figure out what's going on this time and he said both ears have ear wax build up, but Im pretty sure the right one has A LOT more considering it is sooo plugged and I cant even hear from it any more.

Anyways, I bought something called Murine Ear: Wax Removal System.

So I put the drops, and have done 10 drops in each ear three times now. It is supposed to un-harden the wax and eventually I can flush it out. I have read online and some people say after using the drops just once or twice, they use the bulb syringe with warm water and see allll this crap in the sink. Problem is, it doesnt appear to work for me. WTF?!?

Anyone ever use this stuff? How do you guys remove ear wax removal?

PS: I have seen a doctor, who told me I have to un-harden the wax.

OOPS, wrong forum, can I get this moved?

I was in a similar situation. The OTC ear wax removal stuff didn't seem to work for me...in fact seem to make things worse.

I finally went and saw a Ear, Throat, & Nose doctor and he went in and pulled out all the earwax. The one ear was quite painful when they did the removal but I did notice a big difference. If you haven't already you might want to find a Ear, Throat, & Nose doctor.

Our family doctor who is also our son's pediatrician advised us to use olive oil to soften and loosen ear wax. She advised against using q-tips not only for children but for adults as well. Q-Tips only remove a small fraction of the wax and push most of it further down the canal.

          1 part warm water
          1 part hydrogen peroxide

Use a dropper and place two or three drops in each ear. Lay on your side until the bubbling/popping subsides, drain, and repeat on the other side.

Otherwise, go see an ENT. I had a clogged ear (wasn't wax) and I was given some sinus spray and some prescription decongestants and it made my problem go away. If it lasts more than a couple weeks though you might have a bigger issue.

I had a horrible case of swimmer's ear over New Year's and it sucked tremendously. The OTC didn't really work for me either, I eventually went to a doctor and they flushed it out - there was way more wax in my ear than I ever could have expected.

I used that stuff and it worked for me. Lay on your side, put in the recommended # of drops, and lay there. The stuff i had said it would "crackle" and to let it sit for 20 min or so. Then to get up and flush it out with water.

I bought one of those cheap little bulbs, filled it with water and squirted it in my ear. It shot water in there and flushed it out. Problem solved

I have the same issue with my right ear. My doctor told me it was because i have a lot of hair in my ear and the wax is attaching itself. I use the hydrogen peroxide to loosen and then use an ear syringe to flush the wax out.

Hyrdrogen Peroxide is good advice - that stuff destroys ear wax. Just lie on your side and drop it in, then wait like 20 minutes while it all sizzles and stuff. It'll clear you up.

When you guys say lay on your side... you mean keep the ear you poured the stuff in facing up right?

It would defeat the purpose if you laid on the ear you just poured the wax remover in, right?

Is there any truth to the method of holding a funnel to your ear and holding a flame to the funnel and that would loosen up the earwax then it would fall out?

I found that out when I had a moth fly in my ear. It was fluttering and causing insane pain, so I wanted to drown it. It did that, and made my ears so clean.

I use that now,and it's not only cheaper than the ear wax removal stuff, but it works better.

I'm an audiologist and hydrogen peroxide is the way to go like the others have mentioned. Even after the peroxide has done it's thing you may need to visit your GP to have it professionally syringed or if they can't do it get a referral to the ENT to have it vaccumed is the next step.

You can also get some stuff called audiclean (http://www.audiclean.com/) from the chemist to try to flush the ear youself in the shower. It's a bit of rip off for a cannister of pressure packed saline but it does work pretty well.

Avoid ear candling, it's just a scam.

If your ear is still feeling blocked after having it syringed you should go and see your doctor / an audiologist because with your history i wouldn't be surprised if the otitis media has flared up again and may need treatment with anti-biotics or even a grommet if it keeps up.

Good luck with it bud, i know how annoying it can be.
