    College students- summer jobs

How's everyone's search going, or if you have a job what are you guys doing this summer?

Last summer I had a pretty sweet office job that paid well, and was pretty easy work. I was hoping to find something similar this year, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I'm probably going to end up working at a grocery store, or target or something, but even those haven't been that easy to find places that are hiring, especially just for the summer.

    What's everyone else doing?

I work at the hospital as an admitting clerk, its an easy job, get paid decent money (8 bucks an hour) and have the option for any overtime I want (working 26 hours OT this week)

A lot of college kids are in for a rude awakening when they come home. It's just not easy at all to find a job right now.

Thankfully, I've finally found an office type job. The details of it are still getting worked out (it's through a friend), so I'm still a little nervous that it'll fall through but it sounds perfect. I won't be comfortable until I collect that first paycheck.

Walmart is always hiring...mainly because so many of their workers quit EVERY month LOL.

          Office Max is hiring.

Bed Bath & Beyond is hiring.

          Dominoes always hiring drivers.

Hmmmm that is about it that I see. Very hard to get into Best Buy now that Circuit City is closed because all of them work there now.

I'm considering a job as a valet driver this summer. Don't know where yet, but it's a consideration.

That'd be neat. My sister did that for a summer at a big expensive golf course, she loved driving all the fancy cars.

As for me, I'm working for the Blue Jays during the baseball season and continuing to work as a logistics consultant. Plus summer school

You've not that right. Back when I was in college the first time (1995-2000) summer jobs were easy to find. I went back home for the summer my freshman and sophmore years and found jobs pretty much the day I got there. The remaining summers I stayed in the college town and had the same luck.

Now I'm in a semi-metro area and have been looking for nearly 3 weeks with little luck. Even with a college degree from my 1st trip to school and 1 year complete with my second one places are not quick to hire.

I have an internship this summer. It's unpaid.

But I work at a TV station in Pittsburgh in its sports news department. I basically watch and talk sports all day. I get to go out in the field and do some stuff too. I've only been working for about two weeks, but I've already interviewed Sidney Crosby, Max Talbot, Max Starks and Heath Miller.

Last night I got to hang out at the Pirate game for a few innings before going back to the station and simultaneously watching the rest of the Pirate game, the Lakers game, and some MMA.

Tonight I get to watch the Penguin game and the Pirate game at the same time. I'm sure I'll have to keep notes on one game to make sure we have good clips for sports highlights for the 11 o'clock news.

                  If only I got paid.

Both seem like awesome jobs - how did you guys manage to get those?

I'm at the same grocery store I've been at for the past two summers. I take a leave during fall for football, come back for weekends in the spring, and then grind out the hours in the summer.

They treat me good so I have no intention of leaving (had to have knee surgery like 2 weeks after I first got hired and missed a whole month of work). Plus I got my raise and I'm up to $8.10 an hour (if only I could get more hours, lol).

The Boston Globe didn't close down, so I'm still doing my high school sports there Summer obviously is a slowdown in my department, but I recently received a promotion (thank God) so I'll be fine until fall previews start up.
