Re: Scariest moment of your life

I would have thought I would have said September 11th 2001, but it was strange...more than being scared...it was surreal. When the cloud that was once a building...and people...and everything else in a building hit me, I distinctly remember just taking a knee and bowing my head down(thinking I was going to get hit with a large object).
Not being able to breathe after that was a little scary..but even that wasn't it.

    This happened March of 2006.
Hottest job I've ever been in....of course there were reports of a person trapped in the house(a three story townhouse), so me and the boys were making repeated attempts to get deep into the house. The line was doing nothing to either put out any fire or cool it down(worse....we were getting heat and steam!)..when the building collapsed from the rear forward on us and sent a TREMENDOUS amount of fire right on us.
I spent two weeks in the burn center(and a "little" longer recovering fully) and the guy in front of me...quite more than that.
Here is my helmet after that job...
    ..
I have no idea how either of us made it back out(I guess we weren't that far in.....hard to tell)

    Spooky.

Re: Scariest moment of your life

There have been more dangerous situations than this, but this really stood out. I was completely shocked and terrified in this situation even though it wasn't me that was in danger. It was just so unexpected:

I think it was in the 8th grade. I had this friend that was really unstable mentally and I kept him chill. Dude was crazy athletic for an 8th grader so it was about like trying to keep a bull relaxed. His mom was this crazy tweeker and wouldn't let him take medicine to keep him sane, so I felt like when I was around him in school I should make sure he doesn't snap. I was always good with this kinda guy. I could calm them down and keep them entertained.

Well one day he came to school really wired and hyped up. He seemed really happy or something, but I just felt like he was a little "off" that day. Me and him were out in the hallway and it was empty; just talking a little bit and laughing. We see this girl from one of our classes walk out of a classroom. This was one of those girls that all the 14 and 15-year old boys were crazy about. Well my friend calls her name and she comes over.

She walks over to us, and without saying anything he just levels her against a locker. My jaw drops and I can't process what just happened. She's crying and I grab him by the arm and I'm like "(name) c'mon man let's get to class. Forget about this." He swings his arm out at me so I back off and he starts choking this girl HARD.

I'm seriously panicking at this point. Yelling for somebody to come out here. I'm young and thinking "OMG I'm about to see my boy murder some girl for nothing at all." I wrap both arms around his chest and she's looking lifeless at this point. I kneed him in the back and finally got him to get off this girl. I kept my arms around his chest until he felt less tense, and he just started bawling. I let him go and the girl was sitting up at this point. Neither me or my friend say anything to her and she goes to the office looking like a wounded animal.

It's cliche but I feel like that incident "changed me."

An insane part of the story that said a lot about my school district: This girl tells her story to the administration. My friend was forced to leave the school for that day and was BACK IN SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY. Back in normal classes and everything. He doesn't say anything about the incident, so I don't say anything about it. He was gone by the time we hit high school. I have no idea what happened to him. Hopefully he got the help he needed.

As for the girl, I knew her all through high school and we never said anything to each other about what happened. I wonder if she remembers it as well as I do.

That's something that really stuck with me. Gotta be the scariest moment of my life.

That is heavy too. He either got help or he killed someone or he is dead. Sad story either way.

Also anything involving guns is scary. I've seen guns pulled and even had two incidents where I had a gun pointed at me. Thankfully I have never seen ANYONE die or be killed. I'm very thankful for that.

Just googled his name and all I could find was an arrest report from a few years ago that said he was busted for felony burglary of a building.

It's so sad that he couldn't get help. Maybe it's not too late. He was really intelligent, just had some real problems. I hope I can see him one day as a free man.

Anytime I see a car pull out just a bit from a side street or cars slowing down for a red light, my stomach just turns. I guess it doesn't matter, though, as I don't want to be medicated. It's just something I'll have to deal with and face every day.
Ever since I was rear-ended I freak out every time someone pulls up behind me while I'm stopped. It's part of the reason I'm such a night person and I hardly ever drive during rush hour.

As for me it's probably when I realized the crashed truck I had driven by maybe 60 seconds before belonged to a friend of mine who had just left the party I went to. That accident led to a social host law in Kansas.

Any time I can hear shots fired I think, "wow, somebody might have just gotten killed." Just real SMH moments.

Then the chances are he has been in and out of jail. Sad story. Hope some days he gets help. How old is he?

Spent the next week and a half at Morgantown University Hospital in pediatric ICU. Every bell, horn, beep etc.. that went off in that room was a nerve rattling experience.....

Thankfully she made it through and we had a happy ending.
God, my son was in the NICU for three days and it was heartrenching, and he was born a few days late. I can't imagine the stress and agony of a preemie.

                        Very scary indeed!

Few times recently... shot at on duty. If I hadn't moved, I would have taken the bullet in my head. Shortly after that, while on a traffic stop, I got side swiped by a drunk driver. If I had been standing next to the vehicle I stopped, I would have been no match for a 70 mile per hour pickup truck.

I fell out of a tree when I was two stories high in my backyard at six years old. I landed literally inches away from the cement in my backyard (landed on dirt instead) and I landed on my back. My grandpa, who was out there as well but fixing something on the patio, saw me fall. He's visiting right now and I just asked him for clarification, and he said that I flipped a couple of times and nearly landed on my neck and killed myself.

I remember the incident clear as day, I just don't know how many times I flipped. Even at six years old, I can easily say that a near-death experience like that was the scariest moment of my life... at least that I can recall at this very moment.

I'd say the scariest moment of in recent memory, and maybe my life, happened two months ago when I experienced an eye migraine (a.k.a. silent migraine) for the first time. I was at work on a Friday and just doing my thing at my PC and I noticed this flashing spot in my vision like you would see after looking at a bright light and then looking away. I figured that's all it was even though I don't remember doing that. Well, it wasn't going away and I began to worry a bit. In addidition to that, it was getting bigger in size. I closed my eyes for a few minutes and just tried to relax. When I opened my eyes again, in the exact part of my vision where that spot was, I could only see color and no definition. That's when I turned to my co-worker, whose face I couldn't see when I looked at her, and said, "My vision is f'ed up and I have idea what is going on." I started to think about how I had some headaches at times over the last few days, even though I wasn't experiencing one at that moment, and wondered if I was having a stroke or about to have an aneurysm or something. My co-worker asked if I wanted to go to the ER. I decided to call my eye doctor first, which was right up the road from my work. I got an immediate appointment there. By the time I reached the office the weird spot had grown to a crescent shape and was only on the outside of my vision. Middle was fine. When I was in being checked out by the doc, things were fine. He told me I had an eye/silent migraine and that he's had friends much more panicked than I was because they had no idea what was happening. One usually associates migraine with headaches but I actually experienced no headache when I was going through this. That's why I never thought about it being a migraine even though migraines run in the family. By far the scariest thing I've experienced in recent memory.
