That's really a shame, man. Maybe try some of the games in the thread (or on my list).
The thing about board games is first and foremost the social aspect. Chatting into a mic with random nicknames being the sole identifier just can't hold a candle to trash talking or strategizing with real people in front of you.
Second, with the lengthy games, it's much easier to leave the board set up, take a break, come back later (or the next night) and pick up where you left, IMO.
Third, the lack of eye strain from starting at the TV/monitor for hours on end!
I'm sure there are more reasons, and maybe others will list them, but I love both experiences. Hopefully you come around.

EDIT: Actually, just thought of another reason. There's something still lacking in AI bots in video games...specifically the board game adaptations. You crank up some arbitrary difficulty slider which could, in reality, just tip the odds of random dice rolls in the CPU's favor. How do you plan against that?

Well, reproducing sports on a board game is pretty difficult. I don't think NFLopoly if truly a sports board game. We used to play this football game called Thinking Man's Football (was actually in Brian's Song.... they were playing it in a hospital scene). Since we had no knowledge of video games, this was pretty neat. Yep....that's wind on the field!

Here's a few I enjoyed as a kid. My favs is probably Risk soo much fun....we had a Seinfeld esk battle in University that lasted about a week and a half on our dining room table!

I don't even remember how Trump was played but i still own it!

This game was classic!

My cousin and I found a crude old game like this at the cottage. Was a simple board tihe the outline of a diamond. It listed outcomes based on rolling two dice...we played tons of full baseball games on our own!
Card games are always my favorites though...
Classics like....
Cribbage
Screw your neighbour
Euchre
Garbage
and others...card games probably led to my love of all poker games.Former Bison, Argonaut, TSN and Sportsnet employee.
