Only if it has to have a pointy headstock that can take out an eye if you're not careful, like so...

Acoustic is harder to master and I think it takes more skill to set yourself apart on an acoustic since you cannot rely on effects and modifying tones (as much as) like with an electric.

Absolutely. See Keith Jarret's remarks regarding electric instruments for some food for thought.

Its just an opinion but I think there is a lot to be said for achieving some level of competency on an acoustic instrument before experimenting with an electric one. It teaches you about dynamics and touch, not to mention develops your left hand strength.

That being said, if your playing guitar to score with the ladies then there is really no question at all.

So you are saying that some people DONT learn to play guitar for that reason?

Its the very first part of the video. Its the only picking pattern that isn't explained/written out in the video and I can figure most of it out just by watching, but I'm still missing some things.
Man that is sick. Ive never seen that combo style before and Ive been playing for 15 years. I am gonna have to try that out. Thanks for posting this!

I own an Acoustic(i was just playing with king there) and yeah it is harder to play because of the higher string tension. imo It's kind of like a piano when it comes to setting yourself apart.

Hahaha, so true. I'm not some guitar prodigy, in fact, I suck. Buuuuuuut, just being able to strum somewhat competently along with singing equals panties hitting the floor! Haha. Especially when you break out some soft rock!

So I've pulled out my old electric (98 Epiphone Les Paul Studio) for the first time in years, given it some new strings and am having a ball. I just discovered open C tuning, although I've modified it slightly leaving the B string as it is. So I guess its open C major 7! Its been cool trying to rethink chords and scales and seeing where the tuning takes me. I'm actually writing original stuff for the first time in years as well, I might have to jot down some of it in Sibelius so I don't forget it all.

I've been so focused on learning classical repetoire for the last 5 years that I haven't really sat down and just rocked out for ages! It turns out that its just as fun as it ever was.

Guffers, you should post some videos of the original stuff you're writing, I'd love to hear it.

Yeah that reminds me I really should learn how to record videos with my webcam and get a youtube account, I've been meaning to do that for a long time. The stuff I'm writing is fairly heavy actually, I love the low C and then combining that with some reverb, distortion and delay is great!

Still, its just random riffs at the moment, if I can start to formulate them into something more defined I would love to post some stuff to see what you guys think.

                              Re: The OS Guitarists thread

So having rarely played my acoustic since October when I got my electric, I went back to it yesterday and, for the first time ever, actually played my acoustic more than my electric. After playing for about 1.5-2 hours, I felt like I had just exercised. My hand and arm were tight and my fingers were relatively tired, but it felt good. My open chords were starting to get a little sloppy so I needed to fine-tune them again.

It was nice to work on a bunch of different stuff I had been working on my electric and hadn't tried out on my acoustic. Those Danny Gatton picking/arpeggio patterns are really cool to mess around with.

Yep you definitely get conditioned to take it a bit easier on the electric. I was messing around with my les paul for an hour or so yesterday, then when I sat down to do my classical practise it was really tough going for a while. The neck just seemed to be enormous and the unorthodox chord shapes seemed insane compared to the power chords I was rocking out with earlier!
