Ah sorry. That tells you how many sharps or flats a particular key has. eg. G major has 1 in F# whilst C major has none.

Thanks. That makes sense now. Its kind of confusing when you know nothing about it, but it will come in handy when picking which scales to learn next.

I've been playing Surf Rider quite a bit lately, really fun tune and a good A minor scale workout. Maybe tomorrow I can get a good cut and upload it.

Cool, sounds great Tendrils. I'm glad your having so much fun with the guitar. I'm just learning a new duet to play with another classical player that I know. Called 'Jongo' by the Brazilian guitarist Paulo Bellinati.

EDIT. Man I really need to learn how to embed videos. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Anyway here is the link. I'm playing the part of the guy on the right. Just working through it slowly at this point. Some really cool syncopations in the writing.

Just now listened to this, a bang-up job IMO.

Though because I must always offer constructive criticism, I think I personally would have lowered the level of the vocals a tad and brought the guitars out a little more. Nothing against the vocal performance, however, it was really good as well, I just would have mixed it a bit different.

Yeah, that's the first mix. I've since done some tuning and tweaking, actually did those two things as well. I'm doing all this self taught, from playing to mixing, so I'm still learnin'

I've been learning some new songs via music sheets as opposed to tabs. I'm starting to get the hang of it, since once you find a "starting point" the rest of the notes just fall into place as they either ascend or descend down the staff. It is a bitch marking out all those damn tabs underneath, though.

Lately I've been working on People Are Strange and Surf Rider (pretty close to nailing that one, still making random mistakes). I started working on Little Sister (Elvis) tonight and that is pretty fun I have to say.

Anyway, anybody know of any good "strumming" acoustic songs? I feel like I don't really have a big list of acoustic songs that I know and would like stuff to play outside since its getting nice out. Wagon Wheel is a given and Down by the Water by The Decemberist is surprisingly fun.

Okay. You guys have just inspired me to play again. I'm going to get my acoustic and play "Purple Haze"!!!

Some older Oasis stuff is nice. Slide Away or Champagne Supernova are great simple acoustic ditties.

Anything by CCR or Dylan is good for strumming. Btw, I'm a huge Allman Brothers fan, so I love your avatar

Since this is my first post in this thread, I'll share a song I recorded a couple weeks ago. My friend requested I learn "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in honor of the new season:

It's pretty fun to play, but the fingerstyle is harder than it looks.

Anybody have any experience with G&L guitars? I dropped my Les Paul off at a local store/repair shop to have them fix my string buzzing and picked up a G&L Semi-hollow bluesboy. I didn't get a chance to plug it in 'cause the shop-girl was busy jamming out, lol. It felt nice in my hands, though.

Also, what pedals would you guys suggest for pedal #2? I'm leaning towards a classic wah, but would also like some kind of muff/fuzz pedal and a good (bluesy) OD pedal.

Volume pedal. Add some dynamics to your playing.

What kind of techniques/effects would you use a volume pedal for?

You can crank it up for choruses or solos. You can also use it to do Jeff Beck style volume swells which produce a violin ish sound. You can also do things like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-zZU...eature=related

Yep all that but mainly its a tool for adding dynamics. eg. Different degrees of loud and soft. Most guitarists have two volumes, loud=distortion and somewhat softer=clean tone.

There are a whole load of nuances and colors you can find by exploring the areas inbetween. In classical music its called 'terraced dynamics'
