If you're 6'3 you need to be fitted for irons. I'm 5'8" and when I got fitted for my Pings they told me I'm the black color (which means just regular size).

Just played some golf today. I shot right at bogey golf on the front nine, but blew up a little bit on the back nine, I stopped rotating my body on my drives, costing me a few strokes.

If I practiced more I'd like to think I'd be shooting around 85 consistently at my home course, and probably about 80 or high 70's at the local public courses.

Once you get golf down a little bit the key is consistency.

Golf should always be fun (even though I get mad alot), and try to putt or if the course has a range you should warm up a little before you play. Get your head down, accelerate through the ball, and watch the ball when you hit it. Have fun though!

Yep, I'm 6'4 and I have the Maroon dot pings Which are 6 degrees more upright and they added 1" to the shafts.

My 3 & 5 woods are 2" longer than standard and I have just a regular lenght driver Taylor Made r5 that I expect to replace for next season.

So Geno, now that you've read through this thread, I'm certain you won't be completely confused standing over your next shot. Lol!

              "Headdowngriprightopenleftfootleftaremstraightrota tehips...blah blah"

If you are thinking all of that standing over the ball you are almost guaranteed to hit a bad shot.

A good consistent golf swing comes from muscle memory. The only way to develop that is by hitting many many many balls on the range.

I'm sure there are a ton of good golfers here at OS, but the best advice I've seen in this thread is to TAKE SOME LESSONS. That is the very first thing.

If you are a beginner, a good pro will first look at your grip. The mechanics of the swing come next. Adjustments will follow.

I would sign up for at least 3 lessons, but it is very important that you go to the driving range and PRACTICE. Not just with the driver. Hit every club in the bag and start with the SW and work your way to the driver.

When you are at the range WORK on every shot. Pick a target, grip the club, align yourself, and swing. So many people go the range dump the bucket of balls out and just start hacking. That's not working on your game. That's a waste of time and money.

Ben Hogan's Five Lessons...I'm a 10-12 handicap (shoot in the low to mid eighties) and have been playing for over 30 years. I read this for the first time 2 years ago and it changed my game...for the better.

              Good luck man.

How much do the length of the club matter? I went from a graphite to a steel shaft and the steel was slightly shortest then the graphite. Thats just how it is right?

I was never really good. I have a tuff time making clean contact. Would the length mean the difference of hitting the ball?

The shorter the club, the more you would have to bend at the knees to get the appropriate level or you could stand closer to the ball which changes the degree at which the heel rests on the ground. Basically you want to get fitted for the right length. However, if you are between 5' 8" and 6 feet, standard would be what you want.

I'm 6'4+ so a 4 iron in a regular set is basically about as long as my 7 iron, so it makes a huge difference for me. I'd have to play a standard sized 4 iron way back in my stance. If you are playing with clubs that are too short, you really have to stay down through contact, if you come up naturally, you'll hit the ball thin or top it.

It could. I would go to a local Golfsmith and let them take a look at your set up and how the club sits when you address the ball. My experiences with these guys have been pretty good. They're very helpful.

I am going golfing this weekend for the first time in many years. I am not very good but I always have fun going. I am in need of buying some golf balls. I don't want to spend a fortune on golf balls since I don't go that often and when I do go I tend to lose quite a many of them. What are some good inexpensive balls out there?

Lostgolfballs.net (or something like that), you can buy them in bulk, they are USED, but the grading scale makes sense. I would highly recommend them over paying $50 for some new Titelist

Shot a 82 two weekends ago. I should of been closer to 79 but I ended up 3 putting on a couple holes I should of sank some putts I normally make. I use to play for the golf team in high school. I shot a 70(-2) on the day of try outs lol. To this day (13 years ago) it is still the best round of my life. I have recently got back into playing after a 5 or more year layoff and I been slowly getting my swing back. When I started back again little over a year ago I was shooting low 90s, I worked my way to the mid 80s, and now just couple weeks ago shot the 82. Next up is getting back in the 70s.

I also get to shoot in the TPC Louisiana in Avondale Louisiana in couple weeks

Phobia that's awesome man, what a feeling it is to find your "swing" again. When i first took the game up 4 years ago, I was shooting great - even got down to a 5 handicap in 2 years. After that though, with a full time job, skyrocket to a 13.5.

Last week shot an 82 as well, my best score is still a 68 (-4) in cold wet rain.

Btw, that course looks incredible - good luck!
