Re: The Food and Beverage Thread

Why is there such a preponderance of ****ty Chinese restaurants? I'm not even talking about the buffets (the food there is a given)! Now it seems that even many hole-in-the-wall joints are serving up the crappy Americanized stuff that's all fatty, deep fried, and loaded with sugary "sauce".

I'm so glad we have some authentic places in the Twin Cities. Nothing beats REAL kung pao, dan dan noodles, and hot pots.

Oh and sushi is slowly becoming my favorite food. It is just so good everytime.

Wings might have to take a back seat....

and B-dubs sucks. Half the time you get wings there they are under sauced or under cooked. I cant stand soggy chicken.

I ate a Chinese buffet yesterday for lunch. Seeing all that sauce glazed over the chicken and then have a ton of it left over after clearing the plate isn't appetizing to me - its no wonder that **** goes straight through me and I'm hungry in an hour or two after. Thankfully, I usually eat buffet once every two or three months. I'm all about the local Japanese stakehouse - talk about some good ****.

I go to B-dub's for the alcohol. $5 pitchers of Land Shark is great.

When I get something to eat, its either popcorn shrimp and mini-corndogs or the BBQ burger.

I made my salad tonight. The salad itself was really good: baby spinach, napa cabbage, red pepper, cucumber, black roasted sesame seeds, wonton strips, almond slices, and mandarin oranges. Doing my own dressing was a different story and didn't turn out too well. I saw some asian dressings in Martin's today when I was getting everything and I thought about picking them up, seems like I should have.

Haven't had McDonald's (save a McGriddle or two) in three years, and after today, will never eat there again.

I have never felt like such **** after eating anything in my life.

This was my dinner tonight -- I had some leftover pie crust so I used it to make a mushroom, onion, and goat cheese tart. Had it with a spinach salad w/ a mustardy vinaigrette and a Dogfish Head 90-Minute IPA.

This was me taking my own taco advice.. I rubbed some eye of round steak leftover from making pho the day before with toasted coriander and cumin, seared it, then sliced it thin. It was a tad under done, so I finished it w/ some onions, lime juice, and Tapatio to fill it with flavor. The cut of meat is pretty tough, but after the lime treatment and being sliced thin, it was good for taco meat.

This was a quick skillet blueberry/blackcurrant cobbler that I made when I realized my berries were about to go south. This is pre-cooking, but I finished it with a little whipped cream.. turned out surprisingly well for a 10-minute pie dough and a tiny skillet:
