The recession has hit eBay pretty hard...

I'm a huge eBay head, I probably spend an hour each day looking at stuff on there, make a few purchases each month and sell some things ever now and again. The deals you can get on there right now are amazing.

I mostly check for sneakers (Nikes and Jordans), game-used basketball stuff (mostly shorts) and videogames/DVD's/Bluray.

The sneaker game has taken a hit, resellers who are trying to mark up stuff like crazy are just having their BIN listings sit there for 30 days before re-listing them for $10 cheaper - over and over again. Some recent J's are going for less than retail. The XX3 (most slept on J in a long time IMO) and the '09 are going for $100 if you look and be patient.

Used Wii's are going for like $150ish, Bluray of No Country for Old Men went for $5.

I listed a pair of Indiana Hoosier game used road shorts a few weeks ago, didn't even think to put a reserve on them. I got them for like $170 last year, they sold for $53!! That's less than the friggen Nike SOD shorts you can buy on Eastbay. :

I listed an authentic Joba Chamberlain road jersey from last year (retail $150) and was smart enough to put a reserve on it of $75, the highest bid ended up being $31.

If you have some spare cash and can afford it I would definitley check out eBay these days.

If people have spare cash and could afford it, Ebay would be doing a lot better.

Plenty of people still have spare cash, they're just saving it a change.

Ebay has to be doing better than retailers. If people want to save some money, then ebay seems logical.

Maybe, but if not I would think it's due to the fact that almost all retailers are being extremely promotional these days with buy one get one free's or buy one get one 1/2 off, etc. Unless you shop exclusively at higher end retailers, it's almost impossible to pay retail for any piece of clothing these days. Whether you shop at Kohls or at Nordstroms, it seems as if everything is on sale these days.

So if ebay is seeing any kind of slow down, it may be due to the fact that people are able to get just about as good of deal buying from their local retailer and they don't have to pay or wait for shipping.

eBay is still rolling in money because of all their fees.

yeah, I listed two games together with free shipping, and it finished at $25. Awful. For what I'll pocket after shipping and fees, I probably could have just traded them into gamestop.

Yep. I was selling movies on ebay before I wised up. You get completely screwed once you pay ebay, paypal and shipping fees. Now I just sell stuff locally and on Buy/Sell/Trade forums to avoid the fees.

Amazon gift cards is another good way of accepting payments.

Re: The recession has hit eBay pretty hard...

I've sold a ton of things on Ebay but never came across this before.

My auction ends and the winner sends me a payment. I receive the following e-mail:

Your funds are pending - please process this order
You received a payment from XXXX CCCC

This money is being temporarily held in your pending balance. It will be held for up to 21 days. While it's being held, it won't be available for withdrawal.

We'll move the money to your available balance after 21 days as long as your buyer hasn't reported a problem. It may be available sooner if we can confirm that the item was delivered or, if this is an eBay item, your buyer leaves positive feedback.

To get access to this money more quickly, please process this order right away and communicate with your customers early and often.
I have no idea what this means. Does it mean that he's waiting to get the item before he releases the payment?

It seems like if I send the item he can cancel the payment and get it for free.

                    Any advice?

Sounds like a scam to me. Did it come from an actual @ebay.com email?

I just sold like 6 games for almost $200
Which was good for me but, it has been slow according to my girlfriend.

About six months ago she started making Reborn Dolls and selling them on eBay. She usually makes about 2 or 3 a month and at first they were selling like hot cakes. Now, it's slowed down a little but, she still making some decent sales. Right now see has one listed on a 7 day auction and the highest bidder is at $499. So, if any of your lady friends is crafty this is definitely a good hobby for them to get into. Plus, it gives me plenty of them for games and TV so, we're both happy.

Try refunding him 0.01 and see what happens. Ive read about this happening to multiple people before and when they refunded a penny back to the buyer it released the funds and put them into their available balance. Try that and let me know if it works.

No, it came from Paypal and it's legit. The $ is sitting in my account as pending. It just seems like the guy could get my item, give me bad feedback (which I have none), and get his $ back while keeping my item.

I stopped using eBay 3 years ago after I most likely transferred hundreds of dollars to a terrorist cell.
