    Re: Anyone major in history?

Currently I am a history major with a minor in criminal justice, but I am not sure if I want to continue with it because I have heard a lot of the sentiments that many have talked about in this thread. It seems the only options are grade school teacher, college professor or grad school.

We do have a course on campus that is about working in museums and historic sites but I am not really sure that a history degree is required of those places. Only if your are going to be providing the historical information would it be necessary and even then a professor from a local univeristy is probably doing that kind of work on the side in addition to teaching.

I went to college to be a history major and teacher. Second semester I took a history of economics course and really liked economics.

To make a long story short, I'm a finance/accounting manager now with a huge library of Napoleonic History literature. History is just fine as a hobby. I'm glad I made the switch.

4 History majors that were in my fraternity in college are now a watchman at a museum, another joined the airforce, one is teaching and the other is a petty drug dealer. All live on Lillte Caesar $5 Hot N Ready as far as I know.

            Well this is inspiring.

Teaching seems to be the path right now, although a masters isn't out of the question. Maybe some research opportunities will turn up once I have a degree.

You could easily get into finance with it. As long as you have a degre, they will teach you the business. You might have to be a phone rep for a while but it allows you to get licences to perform other function in that sector.
I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....

                Re: Anyone major in history?

So I was giving some thought to what I might want to major in during college, and I actually have some interest in history. I then remembered there was a thread about it, but I forgot what it said. I came in here and got these very encouraging posts. Although with my lack of direction/motivation, a librarian or a watchman at a museum sounds pretty tempting I'm not so sure I want to be a teacher either, so I'll probably stick with my plan of waiting a year or so before deciding on my major.
