They are both great feats, but I guess we will have to disagree. I will go with the kid who put his life and pretty good future on the line to save 22 kids over the guy who had no choice and did his job and what he was trained to do.(not that he isn't a hero either)

There are many hero's of the year every year.

Very brave of him. Sounds like he's a very good football player, but from this story, it looks like he is a pretty good person too.

Sully didn't do that all by himself, though. That was a true team effort by the Captain, First Officer, and all the Flight Attendants to crash land the plane safely and get everyone off.

Not sure Sully is a hero, he was just a cool headed person who was very good at his job. A hero is someone who puts his or her self at risk to save someone else. Sully was saving himself along with the passengers. As the others have said, he had no choice but to go into the river. He is a brilliant dude who performed a miraculous feat, but it wasn't heroic, as it wasn't a selfless act.

It disappoints me to see Edgerrin James get loads of praise from many posters for taking his kids to school one day and this amazing young man only has two people saying anything good about him. Unbelievable.

This is a great story. This young man put his (rather bright) future on the line and didn't even think about his well-being, only his family and the fellow passengers. ESPN should be doing a story about this kid.

Which has been my point on that thread from day 1.

I don't agree w/your statement at all. Below is Webster's definition...

                        Hero (Webster's):

1a: a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability
                        b : an illustrious warrior
c : a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities
d : one that shows great courage

The college guy definately qualifies as a hero, as does the airplane guy as well.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

The rest of the crew on that airplane deserves more credit than they are given, as well. Sully couldn't have done it alone.
