Self Reflection Time: "If I Would Have ____; I would Have Made It." (Sports Wise)

Made it doesn't have to be PROFESSIONAL; it could mean whatever you want it to be. Make sure you state what IT is and what you could have done (that you didn't do) to make it.

    Let me start it off.

I think I could have been a better PG if I would have started learning the position before I got to High School. Not to say others haven't mastered the position in LESS time, but I think that hindered my progress at the position.
    Concrete evidence/videos please

If I was left handed, I think I would be playing professional baseball right now...I've been told by this by more than one scout. Unfortunately when you are right handed and top out at 85-86 there isn't a scout who will give you the time of day regardless of how good your command is. When you'r left handed with the same skill set, you all of a sudden are a "crafty" lefty with all sorts of potential. Luckily I realized this when I was about 14 and was realistic about my goals after playing though college.

Can't lie; I don't know if I would have had a shot at any sport no matter how hard I worked. I just didn't have the raw athletic ability.

Baseball- Couldn't get around to a fastball by the time I progressed to the higher grade levels. Just didn't have the bat speed. I can't tell you how many times I struck out swinging the last couple of years I played.

Football- I don't have the size and there's really not much you can do about that. I have a small frame and I'm 5'9" 155 pounds. Maybe if I had lifted like a maniac and eaten more...

Hockey- Probably would have had the best chance at this sport as a Brian Gionta/Steve Sullivan type player. I was never great at skating backwards, though.

Basketball- Not tall enough and too inconsistent. I could sink 20 straight jumpers, then miss ten in a row just as easily, lol.

If I would have not been a lazy ***, I may have been able to play pro baseball. I may not have made the Majors, but to even play in the Minors would have been great. I played with a few guys who played Minor league ball, and I asked them if I would have worked harder at it if I could have played, and they have told me that I definitely could have. I was always naturally talented playing baseball, and I thought that my natural ability would just be there without working at it. I was wrong.

It still bothers me to this day. I'm now a project manager at an engineering company, but not very happy with what I do. Even if I didn't make it, if I could have then went into coaching or front office type jobs within the sport, I would be much happier.

If I would've NOT listened to my mom; I would have made my HS football team.

Moms always held an issue w/ me playing football .

No problems w/ basketball or baseball, and I was undersized w/ no hops for a PG and didn't have A good enough arm for baseball...but dammit I could hit, loved to play, but mommy didn't want her poor child getting hurt on the gridiron ...got no support from my father since moms wore the pants...and if I decided to play, no privileges like driving the family car etc.

My freshman year though I decided to try out anyways, and made it to final cuts but didn't make the team. Stood a good chance to make the team next year though, but didn't try out because of all the hell my mom gave me over it.

Needless to say, we learn from our parents, and my son will be able to play whatever sport he wants to...regardless of what his mom says. I can already tell he's gonna have some ability too. He's a high-energy kid, a 2 yr old the size of a 4 yr old, and he likes running into walls.

If I would have had $550 (instead of only $210 for the entire trip, which included a $100 tryout fee) to spend on tryouts this past summer for the USL 1 (United Soccer League Div 1) I might've had a better shot at making a team rather than the team I did not make (Charleston Battery).

If I hadn't torn my ACL overseas 4 years ago, I would have made it to playing in the Indonesian pro soccer league (Liga Indonesia) when I was 19 - and also being the only American to play there.

this is such a Uncle Rico thread...

But....If I would have not quit the team in High School after making it, there is no doubt in my mind I would be playing hoop overseas right now...

I was about 5'1 as a freshman and grabbing the rim off vert and had some pretty ridiculous speed, but no fundamentals.

now im just 5'7 and Injury prone...still a terror on the hoop court though.

If my coach would have given me the opprutunity to play my Junior and Senior year, I think I would be playing college baseball right now.

                Or

If in 7th grade I would have ditched every other sport and concentrated on tennis, I would have been a beast at tennis. I think if I would have concentrated on tennis 7th grade and after I could have pretty easily gotten a state championship in singles. And then gone on after that to play college or whatever

Men in my family are notorious for late growth spurts. Not an excuse by any means, but if I'd started growing earlier (I'm 6'2 now, but was growing until almost 20) i'd have been able to play HS soccer. As it was, I was undersized as a freshman and my school was so good that I wouldn't have gotten far. If I'd been more equal in size I think my skill was good enough to play in HS. Doubt I'd have gotten any farther, but the height was what made me turn to track/cross country instead of soccer.

I've also picked up tennis the past 2 years after never learning a thing and I'm doing pretty well...I have the build for it, and if I'd played that as a kid I could theoretically been halfway decent, who knows.

If I would have choose to play football instead of hockey I think I would have had a chance at going far. I had the size to be a great great football player, and heck I can even whip around the ball pretty good, but alas hockey season conflicted and at the time I was dedicated to the ice.

I always say if I could go back in time I'd choose football.

Had I not gravitated to computers, I probably would have been a decent athlete. If I were to get in shape now, I'm sure I could do some things in sports. I'm reasonably fast, I'm relatively big, and I've already got some strength. I just have too many pounds on me, and my endurance is ridiculously bad.

But I'm also lazy. So there's that.

If I had a better metobolism I would have been a decent WR. I am 6'3" but only like 165. Last night, I had ribs and beans around 6:00, then at 9:00 has 12 boneless honey BBQ wings from Buffalo Wild Wings. I will not gain an ounce.

That in turn made working out useless, I was just in great shape.
