Yeah well said. Everything else is just a matter of good common sense. Get out of debt = less stress.

Get the money straight man. Plus, another two years doesn't hurt at all just to see if it really, really is going to work out for the rest of your lives.

Bad debt is bad good debt is well...good.

If you are holding Assets and collecting checks on the debt then no problem. If it is consumer debt then get ridd of it as soon as possible pref before Marraige. While we're on the subject make sure her credit is good too. Some things should always remain private even when married.

I don't believe anybody has asked...what is the living arrangment right now?

Because you'll notice a change in finances (some for good, some for bad) the minute you cohabitate.

We have lived together for 3 1/2 years.

Right now we live in a house with 5 other house-mates, rent is $500 for me and her.

Before we moved here though, we lived with my parents for 1 year, rent-free.

Before that we lived by ourself in an apartment that was $700 p/month for a year, I was working for a Telecommunications giant as a contractor, and was laid off just in time before we moved back with the parents.

So you've allready been "splitting" bills and managing money as a couple for awhile now. That's good.

In my experience, debt is a natural progression of living today on the promise of tomorrrow. And strangly enough, marriage is very similiar. You have bad days as a couple and work through them because you hope/know it'll get better.

But all that babble aside, I guess I would say that holding off is very logical but not very practical.
