Dress Code @ Morehouse College. What Do You Think About This?

The policy details 11 expectations of students, including:

* no caps, do-rags and/or hoods in classrooms, the cafeteria, or other indoor venues

* no sun glasses worn in class or at formal programs

* no jeans at major programs, as well as no sagging pants on campus

* no clothing with derogatory or lewd messages either in words or pictures

* no wearing of clothing usually worn by women (dresses, tops, tunics, purses, pumps, etc.) on the Morehouse campus or at college-sponsored events.

Students that violate the new rules risk academic suspension.

Its a private university right? Then there is no need for discussion they can do what they please. But on a side note anything is better than me seeing a 18+ year old's under wear cause his damn pants are sagging

It is a problem if the school has to ban men from jumping into women's clothes.

Folks called into the radio last night saying that dudes would come to class in SKIRTS! SKIRTS!

I went to Clark (located next door to Morehouse) and they have a huge gay population so its no surprise they would be pissed about the female clothing part.

My brother went to Morehouse back in the early 90s. A lot has changed in the ATL since then.

On one hand, it's a private school so what it says goes.

But on the other hand, who the **** cares what other people wear? If you're not getting paid to work in nice clothes, and your clothes aren't immediately derogative to someone (like having a racial slur on your hat or something), who cares?

These guys like to wear skirts. More power to them! Other than the fact that they go to a private school, they should be able to wear them.

Many do. Why? Because it is a distraction. Dude walks into class in a skirt, NATURALLY folks' attention will be diverted from the teacher to this person.

Go to Walmart and you will see quite a few men dressing up like women on a regular basis. But far as the dress code. most of that stuff is for safety reasons.

You know it is hard to identify people through the campus security cams if they wearing hoods and sunglasses.

And far as the saggin pants and doo rags........people need to grow up, you not back on the block no more, you at college. That is the number one reason why black men have such a hard time landing a good job.

They don't know how to dress for it. So they really need to get into the habit of dressing appropiately.

I went to a public school and believe it or not, things like this happened. I had people dress up randomly in the middle of the week.

People turned, said it was cool, then went back to class. That's college. College is about putting 18-22 year olds together with a **** ton of stress and seeing what happens. Oftentimes, students do something to make themselves happy... like dressing up in dresses or skirts.

It's not a big deal. If it's a big deal for some people, then it's their fault. No one should be jumped for wearing a skirt, anyway. That's just ridiculous.

Also, I said earlier that I understand Morehouse's reasoning, and I also respect their decision. They are a private college (which I'm assuming is all-male) and they are free to set whatever rules they like.

I think thats a bunch of BS. Black people arent stupid. If a white person can wear pajamas and sandles to class but wear a suit to a job interview....Black people can wear a baseball cap or a doorag to class and know to dress in a suit for an interview.

I wear jeans and boots samn near every weekend but I know to wear a suit or a blazer at my job. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to know that.
