Re: Dress Code @ Morehouse College. What Do You Think About This?
And far as the saggin pants and doo rags........people need to grow up, you not back on the block no more, you at college. That is the number one reason why black men have such a hard time landing a good job.
They don't know how to dress for it. So they really need to get into the habit of dressing appropiately.
Somebody here HAS to wear their pants sagging, how the hell can you walk normally with your pants so low?Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

Re: Dress Code @ Morehouse College. What Do You Think About This?
I just dont like the fact you are singling out blacks as if its a race related thing when its not. Its not a culture thinge either. Those black kids who dress down for an interview at Walmart are doing that not because they dont know any better but because they arent interviewing with Walmart and dont give a ****. Other races do that also. They recognize that they arent going to have a career at Walmart and dont give a ****.
Also, I find it hard to believe that many 21 yr old black males have never worn a dress shirt. Most 21 yr olds I know have been to church where at many its damn near a requirement. BigTig made a great point too about clubs. There isnt a major club in DC that a black male could get into with out wearing a dress shirt or dress pants. Same w/ Atlanta.
You can get into almost every club with a nice pair of jeans and button up. Hell, i've been in there with T-shirts on.Comment

Re: Dress Code @ Morehouse College. What Do You Think About This?
Come up this way to Chicago and you will see many wear regular clothes to church. Now thats a crime in my eyes to be wearing saggin pants, with a white t and doo rag on to church. I be seeing many of them up in church with their grandma dressing like that.
And it is quite few clubs up here too that don't have a dress code either.
And I know it isn't a race thing, but being that I am black, I would like to see my own do better. And stop saying they didnt get hired just because they are black.
I am telling every black child or adult who is reading this, dress up for a job interview, dont matter if it is a summer job, christmas job or career job. Because I have seen with my own eyes, a black person resume will get shredded fast as hell if they walk by the lobby and see you not dressed up.
Dont matter if you smart or experienced as hell, if you come up in there dressing like you dont care, then they wont care either and pass you up. Besides you never know who the other people in there in that building might be. They might be high ranking people at other companies just visitng and if they see you dressed up they might say hey if you dont get hired here, you can interview at my company.
True story thats what happened with me. I had an interview with one company and it just so happen the guy I was in the elevator with was from a different company but was attending a conference at that building offered me a job if I didnt get hired with the people I was interviewing with.Comment

Re: Dress Code @ Morehouse College. What Do You Think About This?
I never seen a church with a dress code. Especially in 2009. I wear jeans to church damn near any time I go. Why? Because I don't feel like dressing up another day out of the week. That is what I do Mon-Fri.
But back to the point, I can see why many feel people's freedom is being stripped but I am all for putting students in the most efficient learning environment. Allowing kids to dress in female attire and distracting material messes up the teacher/student flow. So I guess I am for it.
So what if Rasheed can't wear a tube top to class.Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

There are a few churches w/ no dress code but I would say the majority of them still expect you to look professional.Comment

I think I can live with these rules but I don't understand the no jeans thing however this rule seems just a tad overboard:
* no wearing of clothing usually worn by women (dresses, tops, tunics, purses, pumps, etc.) on the Morehouse campus or at college-sponsored events.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Dress Code @ Morehouse College. What Do You Think About This?
All in all if you are a college graduate or been on a college campus past your freshman year you should have picked up on the motto
"You have to dress the Part"
I find it hard to believe that a college student wont pick that up... That is why I feel college is sooo important... past the general oppurtunity to educate yourself and make your self more marketable its a place to grow up and become an adult with out the real world consequences. And more importantly it should open you up to
(if you it allow it to) different cultures backgrounds etc... Its a waste if you leave a university the same way you enter it... Degree or NotComment

Re: Dress Code @ Morehouse College. What Do You Think About This?
There lies the problem. Some people stick with their own way too much and never even try to hang out with other races because they are afraid to be called a sell out or an oreo.
And then you have some, spend their whole 4 years partying and chasing girls, doing just enough to graduate.
When you do just enough, you really don't learn a damn thing. So when you go on an interview and they ask you if you know how to do or this that, sure you will lie and say yeah.
But in reality you heard of it, but really dont how to do it, because you only learned just enough of it in college to get by.
And people like that stand out in the work place. And usually be one of the ones that get fired within the 1st 6 months of being hired.Comment

Re: Dress Code @ Morehouse College. What Do You Think About This?
I dont know about that. I went to a black school. Probably went 4 yrs without having to interact with a non-black on a personal level and I had no problem at all dealing with non blacks when I entered the workforce. Plenty of my friends were the same way. I guess I find it hard to believe that college educated people are having that much trouble adjusting from college to the workforce.Comment
