    Re: OS Pups Thread!

This is disgusting but ... over the last couple of weeks my dog has taken an interest in his own poop. I've caught him trying to eat it a couple of times. Last night I let him out and when he came back in, he carried some in in his mouth. This started about the same time I changed his dog food, so I don't know if the two are related or not. I grabbed some stuff at the pet store today that's supposed to be a deterrent, so hopefully that works.

Sounds like perhaps he's not getting the nutients he needs from the new food and he's eating his poop in an attempt to get the nutrients the 2nd time through.

I switched him to Blue Buffalo, which is supposed to be some of the better dog food around. But I'm tempted to switch him back to the Pro Plan Selects, just to see if that fixes it.

Weird. I've been using Blue Buffalo for over a year, and never had that issue with my dog.

This is going to be a little gross....but...

-Find a treat he really loves....I mean goes crazy for.
-Scoop up his poop and bag it.
-Set it up(with him on a leash) and have the treats ready.
-Let him walk up to the waste and go for it.
-Give him a stern correction and bring him away....sit....treat.
-Do this multiple times until he ignores his waste.

            It worked for my dog.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot if the stuff at the pet store doesn't work.

Putting down our 12 year old golden retriever in the morning. Has a lot of tumors. He started being sluggish a couple months ago so we took him to the vet. Ended up having his spleen removed because another tumor was bleeding on the inside. He was back to normal for about 2.5 weeks and now can barely walk. Really weird, his bag legs are way out to the side. Sucks I am away at school. Went back 2 weekends ago though because we knew it could be 2 weeks or 2 months.

Based on some of the responses on here, my wife and I are trying to ween our dog off of the Hill's Science Diet I/D and get him onto Wellness Core Original dog food. Right now we are still doing the 1/2 and 1/2...he is devouring the Wellness and then picking at the Hill's Science Diet so apparently he likes it. We have to see if his stomach can handle the Wellness food as it's one of the higher rated dog foods from what I've read. My hope is that the stomach issues he had in his first year were simply puppy issues that he outgrew...we'll see.

TPLO surgery complete, she was supposed to stay overnight but the vet went to check on her at 9pm and thought she was fine to come home instead. 3 months of gaming, engaged.

Good luck... Like I said, been through it twice. The first time they have to drop the deuce is a little scary.

Transition has been smoother than I thought, slow walking on the leg like expected and the physical therapy stretching is not as bad as I was expecting. Next week will probably be harder when she's feeling real normal and wants to be active.

I have a 8 year old German Shepherd named Berrit. I don't have any recent pictures of her, but hope to get some soon. The picture below is from between 3-5 years ago. Now she is a pretty huge dog since she now weighs almost 100 lbs, so now I nickname her "The Beast" since that's what my friends call her when they come over to my house.
