We're trying a different type of chemo since the first one didn't work. If this works, maybe 10 months. Maybe. If it doesn't work, it may be as short as a month. Most likely we're looking at 3-6 months though.

If I remember right, you had Dr. Lucas for one of your dogs. We started out with the other oncologist, but she left, so Dr. Lucas has taken over Rocky's care. I really like her. Very caring and compassionate and she's worked really hard to find alternatives after the first chemo failed.

Just seems so unfair though. Rocky's been through so much, it'd be nice if he caught a break somewhere.

Sorry to hear about Rocky, LW. My only advice as someone who's been through what you have twice in the past few years is spoil the crap out of him and take lots of pics/videos. I know those are probably common sense but wish I would have taken more of my guys when I had the chance. Thoughts are prayers sent your way as you and Rocky continue on this journey.

So sorry to hear this LowerWolf. Cancer has to be one of the most heartbreaking and frustrating diagnoses I have to work with. You and the pup are in my thoughts.

                        Re: OS Pups Thread!

Thanks for the thoughts guys, I appreciate it. It's been a really rough few days.

His cancer was spreading and growing. We tried different chemo regimens to slow it down. They'd work for a bit, then the cancer would adjust.

After watching football all day, I let him out early Sunday morning. He was out sniffing around in the yard and seemed to be having a good time, so I let him stay out for a bit longer. When I went to bring him in, he was lying down in the yard, which is very unusual for him. He looked fine, like he was just chilling, but he wouldn't get up when I called to him. So I went out, picked him up and brought him in. When I put him down inside the house, his back legs just buckled. He lied on the floor, looking like he was fine, but he couldn't get up.

I took him to the 24-hour emergency vet. And we realized he couldn't put any weight on his rear left leg. I had X-rays done, and he had a pathological fracture of his femur in that leg. With the type of cancer he has, it's incredibly rare for it to go from one leg to another. It had already hit his right front leg (which was amputated in February) and now it had hit his rear left leg. We had no idea the leg was broken until the X-ray. He never cried or whimpered or anything. I'm not kidding when I say he was the toughest dog around.

He did just fine on three legs, but two was going to be impossible. He was Rocky until the end. As the vet was preparing to put him to sleep, he took his nose to her hand trying to get her to pet him. He went peacefully with me at his side; I'm thankful for that.

I took Rocky's collar and went for a walk through the neighborhood tonight. There were posters on every stop sign for a dog that went missing this morning. Wanna take a guess who found the dog while he was out walking and grieving?

Nothing is going to take away the pain of losing Rocky, but it feels really good to help someone else be reunited with their dog.

I'd like to think that Rocky guided you and this dog to meet up.
