Been taking my dogs to the mountains a lot this year. My oldest on the left, Xena (6 years old) can't keep up as much after her knee replacement but still a good time. Sophie is 3 years old now, she's slowed down but still has a ton of energy to burn.

OS Pups Thread!
So as y'all may or may not know, we lost our home in the Louisiana flooding. Since Monday we've been working sun up to sun down to fix our house. Wednesday I got news that Blaze had passed so I had to stop what I was doing, go dig a grave while his body was picked up from where we were saying, bury him, and get back to work. I was busy because I had to be, and it really didn't hit me until last night. He was an adult when we got him in 2008, so I'm pegging him at around 14 years old. He lived a long life, but he was definitely abused/neglected before we got him so I'm just glad he got a good second life.
I just think the age and shock got to him. From him having to wade/swim through water, being taken to a shelter with a lot of people, to being taken to a strange place, to being separated for basically all daylight hours and previous medical issues. It just sucks because it's the absolute worst time to lose a family member.

Finally brought my dog to the resort. He's just loving it and just exploring everywhere. Here's a pic of him enjoying the sunset before he's about to piss on that tree.Comment

Sorry for your loss Watson. It's never easy losing a pet and I know it's extra hard with everything that is going on. Stay strong, man.

Re: OS Pups Thread!
About 3 week ago we ended up having to put down our 11.5 year old shihtzu due to a very bad infection with her uterus. It was really sad having to go through this since it was sudden and I never had to put a dog down. It was nice that the Vet let us bring Bella home after they put her to sleep, I buried her in my backyard which my wife extended our flower garden by her. My kids ended up painting a rock that is by her and even wrote her letters that we keep by her. As hard as this is, it was a good choice to bring her home since that way we can visit her anytime we want.
My wife and I have always talked about getting a German Shepherd at some point. About 2 weeks ago we went looking at German Shepherds at a few kennels and at rescue days at PetCo. We had found one at the kennel, these pups were very cute and there was one that we fell in love with. We didn't get her right away since we wanted to think about it considering that Bella had just passed away. My 4 kids were pleading their case that night and the day after, which we ended up getting her the day after.
She's so lovable and playful, but my other dog keeps barking/growling at her. He's around 10 yrs old, a shihtzu/Bischon mix and every time she tries to play with him he just won't have any of it. When we take them for walks, they don't bark at each other. I'm hoping they do warm up to each other with time. I can't believe how quickly she has been potty trained. I never realized how smart GSD's are. We have her signed up for obedience training in a week. We have some small issues with her nipping and even lightly, biting at times, so hoping to get that under control.
Here are a few pics of her, we named her Chewy.

Re: OS Pups Thread!
I wonder if the older shih tzu is just stuck in that napoleon mindset. Mine is a great apartment dog, but he doesn't really get along with any other creatures (there are dumpster cats in the area and I have to keep him from attacking them for his benefit more than theirs, he doesn't realize he doesn't want anything to do with dumpster cats), maybe it's a breed thing and they just want to defend territory the best way they know, by being loudWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment
