I'm so sorry, Phobia. I feel for you. I love my dogs so much and when this time comes for me its gonna be horrible.

Something very similar happened to my sisters dog, which I posted in here. They were pretty sure she had a brain tumor and went blind. All happened very suddenly.

If you can't afford the bills then please don't feel guilty. My sister paid over $1000 and they still wanted to do an MRI and it was just too much. She was having seizures as well. So it was time to let her go.

Once again, I'm sorry. Sometimes the best thing we can do for our pets is to let them go.

Thanks a bunch man, it might sound stupid but my wife wont go without finding out exactly whats wrong so she pulled out $3,000 from our 401k tonight, so we are going to do the MRI. While its a **** load of money to drop just for a answer of exactly whats going on, I fully support it. That doesn't change how much it costs but damn at the end of the day its just a couple thousand toward retirement which in the grand scope pretty minor.

So fingers crossed we find out its just a brain infection which can be treated with steroids.

Its crazy to spend this much but damn my mental state will be better in the end knowing I did everything possible.

Sorry to bring this thread down guys, just been a rough couple days and I really appreciate all the support. I know my wife does also, i was reading ya'll comments to her in the waiting room.

Praying for you man that the MRI shows it's not as bad as it looks right now, and they're able to do something to treat it.

Rocky turned 10 last month, and it's terrifying to me that he's probably got less than five years, even though he's, thankfully, in good health now.

Thanks a bunch man, i know exactly what you mean. I'd say about 3 months ago I told my wife, "man I'm so glad we have 4 to 5 more years left in her, lord knows I couldn't see coming home without her greeting us at the door". I guess in typical fashion I jinxed us, because this is what we are facing shortly after.

Its like mab said, ****ty thing is how short we have with them, we kind of take it for granted but man does it fly. They are pretty much the physical form of angles, pure love and affection.

Sorry to post one last time about this but just getting it off my chest.

So we got the MRI results back last night, she has a very large tumor on her pituitary gland in her little brain. So they gave her 2 months to live. As "prepared" as I was it was still pretty heart breaking to hear, I was holding out slight hope it was only an infection. Unfortunately we will be looking into putting her to sleep once her condition gets worse, the vet said as of now she is not in any pain. The tumor is pressing on her optic nerve which is causing her sight issues but other than that everything else about her is fantastic bill of health.

So they said it could be months and months until she starts exhibiting any another symptoms or it could be next week there is just far to many unknowns. Only good thing is pituitary cancer is very slow growing so she has had this for years and years, so they recommended some holistic options which might be able to reduce any inflammation around that area and possibly delay or improve it slightly.

So as of now we could get anywhere from couple weeks left with her to an entire year. Its very much a monitor it and give her the best damn last days type of situation.

I'm very sad but coming to terms with it, we gave her a fantastic life. The hardest part is trying to do regular every day activities and not feeling guilty you are not devoting 24 hours a day to her since you know there is not much time left.

Thanks for allowing me to vent a little, its weird but not a ton of people I know understand the love I have for my dog.

I'm sorry. I know it's not easy but thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear she's not in pain and that you've got some time left with her. Don't feel guilty you can't spend 24 hours a day with her. Like you said, you have given her a fantastic life. She knows and is thankful.

Damn. I was hoping it would be better news for you, Phobia. Cancer sucks just as much for dogs as it does for people.

Enjoy the time you have left with her; hopefully she'll stay pain-free for awhile.

Me with the birthday girl, Henley. She's 2 today. She's a crazy Jack Russell, LOVES water, being chased, and jumping 5 feet high for her tennis ball. She's the daughter of the two other Jacks, Gromit & Lucy. We were never intending to keep another, but she just never left! The other pups found amazing homes to friends and family. Henley has stolen my heart even if she's not technically mine. We live on the bottom half of our in-law's house and they stay upstairs (cat + Jacks = nope), but because of schedules my wife & I spend a lot of time with them and care for them a good bit. She's the perfect blend of brave and goofy, playful but strong. And better behaved their her mother and father!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation and it's not easy going through this.

I dread the time it will happen with our 8 year old Springer Spaniel.

I wasn't sure where else to post this so if you guys think it would better served else where let me know.

I may have posted about this before, but we've had some run-ins with our neighbor's dog from time to time. Jack is a 6-8 year old Yellow Lab. He's come into our yard several times and he's aggressive to the point where his hair is raised and he's growling/barking at us. I know he is medicated for, I think, anxiety.

Our neighbors do not have a fence and have a history of leaving him outside unsupervised. As such Jack will often wander off throughout the neighborhood. Other times, such as last night, he will come into our yard and act aggressively towards us.

Last night the three of us (Me, Ashleigh, and our dog Gemma) were in the front yard tending the flower beds. The front yard is not fenced in, but Gemma is good about boundaries and was lying on the front walk. All of a sudden I see Jack round the corner of his house and run into our drive-way barking and growling. He comes to where I as working and takes a defensive stance with hair raised and barks and growls while I'm telling him to go back home. Ashleigh, in the meantime, scoops Gemma up and heads to the front door.

After several minutes of telling Jack to go back home he finally turns, goes, and goes around the other side of the house.

Unfortunately, several minutes later, he comes back. Ashleigh sees him heading across his yard towards us so she scoops Gemma back up and goes to the door. I cut Jack off in my drive-way so I'm in between him and Ashleigh. We stand there for several minutes going back and forth with my car in between. Ashleigh is yelling for the dog's owner who is apparently no where to be found.

After minutes of this the owner finally comes out of the house and gets his dog profusely spouting sorries and takes Jack inside. The owner comes back outside (by which time I've cleaned up the yard and am working in the back) and apologizes to Ashleigh. I can hear him saying that Jack is "big baby" and "wouldn't hurt anybody" and all those typical lame excuses.

Now, my question is what the hell are our options? They clearly know there is a problem, but seem content with doing nothing about it. I hate having to involve an outside (legal) party, but it seems like that's the path we're on. There was a pile of bricks where we were standing at in the driveway and the thought crossed my mind to pick one up. I don't want to have to hurt an animal, but if this happens again I might not have an option next time.

It's always your family first Fresh do what you must. The owner needs to be aware and understand he's only a big baby with them because they are Jack's pack leader. They also need to hear that he scares your family and you don't want to harm Jack but you will not let him harm your family. Control him before you're forced to do something you dont want to do. Hackles raised, growling and barking is the step before biting. It's not like you're in his yard and he's protecting that. He's coming to you and threatening you.

Legally, I'd document incidents so if you are forced to take aggressive action to prevent him from doing harm you've got history and have some legs to stand on. If he's aggressive and has a history and he does bite someone he might get put down. I had a dog (same jack russell I've mentioned saved my parents from a house fire) that did bite a random lady in the face because she didn't respect his boundaries and got right in his face with out letting him sniff and ok her. He got quarantined for almost a week for a rabies check and to test his aggression level. If he tested positive or showed signs of aggression the county would have put him to sleep. Luckily that didn't happen.

I'd talk to the neighbor one more time and express your concerns again over Jack's aggression and provide the details. And then I'd tell him that while you hate doing it, he leaves you no choice but to call the cops if it happens again.

Hopefully the neighbor takes it seriously after that. But Mabster is right, you've got to protect yourself and your family.
