Could use a bit of advice right now, my is lab is sick. She has Diarrhea and is making a hacking/couphing noise. I would like to try and avoid the Vet as I know that is going to run me over $700(at least). So What I am doing right now is using a bland diet(rice and 95% lean hamburger) to settle her stomach while also giving her pedialyte. She doesnt love the pedialyte but Im mixing it in with her food and she is eating it all.

The Diarrhea is the worst part since I have about 5 minutes to get her outside before she explodes, She has had 3 accidents in the house, all being while I was asleep. The good part is she is smart enough to go on this mat I bought for her water bowl.

as a side note, she went to the Vet on Thursday and got Distemper and Kennel cough shots.

did the issues start after the shots?

About a 2.5 days. I'm at the vet now and we're about to start testing to see what's wrong.

Tests all came back normal, doctor is not sure what it is. Thinks it could be something called Addison's disease. Not sure what to make of this other than I still don't know what's going on and I'm out $700

Sophie 2 years old now, Xena almost 5. I got lucky and they do everything together and enjoy each other's company

When my lab suddenly got diarrhea that wouldn't stop the vet was at a loss too. However, after a series of tests it was determined that he had Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. With this disorder, the pancreas doesn't make enough enzymes to digest food. Treatment required adding this enzyme to every meal he ate. Maybe something to ask the vet about. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip! The problem I have right now is my current vet is closing down so I had to go to the after hours vet clinic yesterday. I'm in sick dog purgatory

The diarrhea thing reminded me of a dog I had before, she had to go on a very bland diet while taking medication for the remainder of her life. She had something called "Protein losing enteropathy". Besides the diarrhea, the weight loss was the most noticeable thing that something was wrong

Brought home a new pup this weekend. 6wk old chocolate lab.......havent come up with a name yet. Very first thing she does when I get her in the backyard is bolt to the pool....the second pic is the aftermath lol

Cute pup! That's good that she likes the pool, that's probably common with labs I guess? I spent all weekend in the pool with my pups. They are fun to swim with.

Gemma is a Boxer/Lab mix, but really hates the water. We took her to the beach last year. I carried her into the surf and she looked pitiful. We put her in the pool and the sank like a rock to the bottom before bubbling back to the surface and swimming to the edge.

Was a great weekend for the pool..... Spent just about every minute in it other than brewfest
