    Re: OS Pups Thread!

Our pup really has grown up now and she made the move with us to the new house, but now she's in a fenced in back yard and doesn't have nearly the same space to roam or do things. She had a pond, deer to chase, could visit family in the vicinity, etc... I know her breed is known for roaming and that's what she did, but we also lived near family.

Now she's become super needy and sits on the back porch and stares through the window whining or she tries to jump up so you can see her through the windows. She still has a lot of space to roam, but right now it's cold and turns dark early so by time we're home the kids can barely spend time with her.

She loves our kids and really does take some pride in protecting them, but we are just afraid she's sad now. My wife's parents have offered for her to come live with them since she spent so much time at their house anyways, but that's a hard thing to do. The other option is adopting a dog for her to have more company, but we don't even know how well she would do with that. She doesn't hate other dogs, but she also hasn't been around them a lot. Our neighbor now has a beautiful solid white pitbull that's in their yard sometimes and it barks, but she doesn't even bark back.

Once it warms up a little we may just adopt another dog so we will have time to build a dog house with some heat in it. As it is our dog is built for the cold weather and she just sleeps on the back porch at night or goes to the walk-in storm shelter.

Probably just anxiety over being in a new place. She's just worried you're going to leave and abandon her there. My mom's chocolate lab was the same way when she moved to a new house. Even though she was already and inside dog, she would just follow my mom around everywhere and always want to be right next to her for a while after the move.

          Well we did it again.

She’s a loving pure bread husky that we got from a young couple for $200. I can’t imagine what they paid as it came from a breeder in Kentucky but they were responsible enough to admit they couldn’t take care of her (they have three young children and are very young themselves).

She’s like you would expect from a young husky pup and very energetic.

She seems to get along with our other dog who is also part husky but getting the old dog acclimated to the new dog has been a challenge.

Any suggestions? Just got the puppy today.

Edit: SHould mention, after spending just a couple hours with her, it's pretty evident that they did no obedience training with the puppy.

She was the last to be adopted.

              Why?

              Because she was all heels.

So with the dog I talked about in this post...

Her name is Olivia, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She's seven, and the sweetest thing ever. No bark, no bite, no growl, no noises from her ever really. But she loves her Brub-brub (that's "brother" in baby talk) and does everything with me when I have her!

                Spoiler

The last time I saw her, I snapped some photos in and around my house, and made a calendar out of those photos. I already ordered them and everything. They look grade, but I tried the card stock and it's really thick paper with a matte finish. I might try a thinner paper with a glossier finish.

This calendar is going to myself, my mother, and the family that owns the dog as Christmas gifts.

Anyway, to get an idea of what everything looks like, here are the months and their respective photos:

I used a site called Mpix. I tried to Google "custom calendars" and Shutterfly amazingly never came up.

Do they do calendars? If so, I might want to consider checking them out. Given all of the camera equipment that I bought recently, I have so many coupon codes that I should at least attempt to use one of them on some calendars.

That calendar looks great. I wish I would spend time to do that because I know I'd enjoy it all year!

                        Question for you guys....

How much would you guys pay a teenage neighbor to come over two or three times a week to let dogs out once a day for about 10-15 minutes? I generally take my dogs to camp a couple days a week but it is $25/dog for camp and I take two of mine there, so it's expensive. I wanted to cut that down to $100 a week. It's not that much work for the teenager, I was thinking $10. I think when I was 16 I would have walked across the street for 15 minutes to earn $10, but I don't know what teens are like these days lol. What do you guys think?

If they're walking across the street or even have to drive a short distance, then I think $10/per visit is fair.

For the past couple of years we've been using pet sitters who come to our home and let our dogs out rather than kenneling. They typically charge $15 per visit which is much better than $25 per dog at a kennel or a sitters house. They typically stay for 30 minutes to an hour each visit, as well.

I was thinking $10 for the week, which I guess is $5 a visit. Doesn't seem like much, but neither is letting out dogs for 10 minutes! I am considering the pet sitter service stuff to let my dogs out, but I just have trust issues I guess! Thanks!

Yeah, I was thinking $20-25/week depending on how many times they would come by ( you said 2-3).
