Ditto, this is what I'm getting at. Again when I say breeder I'm talking about highly reputable ones, not some guy with a stud and two bitches that sells puppies by the side of the road. Again I have dogs from the pound and they're great pets but when I need working dogs I make sure they come from good bloodlines.

It is more about nurture than nature. Someone who spends $1000 on a dog is more likely to train it well than someone who spends $100. This is why some pit bulls are bad and some are not.

Working is different, that is definitely not what was stated above. Obviously some dog breeds are more inclined to 'work'. Just hope you don't get one that is prone to hip displasia.

Anyway I've probably been a bit overzealous in my defense of adopted dogs. I just think it is stupid to pay so much for a dog when plenty of great dogs (and cats) are waiting to be killed at shelters across the country.

I payed 1000 for my chihuahua, I bought it in 96 as a puppy. We had to get rid of it. It was not too happy about the baby. They are very territorial and when my son came into this world the dog was going crazy/. They say that is what a lot of chihuahua do. We were also lucky we found a home for it. They only like one onwer. Are dog ended up liking the new onwer. So that was a great. I miss Chuey once inwhile. The dog was beautiful. It is what is called a deer face chihuahua

lol. If a mod whats to re-size it that would be great. I have no idea how to do stuff like that.

this is not chuey, but he did look like this as a baby maybe a little lighter.

The colors make it look like a very small German Shepherd.

That dog had heart! He would attack any ones toes he did not know. Once I was walking him and he started barking at a Pit. I was so damn scared for Chuey and me. But I was ready to kick that dog right in the head if it came after Chuey.

I was newly married and we moved down to San Deigo and so him at a pet store. We started playing with him and fell in love him. We had no idea how much he cost. I figure he would be 100 to 200 tops. Wrong he was a 1000. It was a full breed with his mom and dad being show dog winner. They said he would not get to be bigger than 8lbs, he got to 12lbs. Still he was cute even when he got bigger.

Damn straight. That's how a dog should be treated. Not in a pen, or chained up somewhere, isolated from everyone. They're pack animals. Of course they need space, too.

Thanks man. You need to get some newer pictures yourself of those beautiful dogs.

Bingo. There bad breeders, average ones, and great ones. I went as far as getting my dog from a breeder in California. She has been breeding GSDs since the 70s and is highly reputable. Could have I gotten a good GSD here in-state. No doubt but I felt really confident about her and went with that place.

Some don't want a shelter dog though. Nothing wrong against them though. My parents brought in three shelter cats and all three were awesome.

Personally I was looking for specifics in my GSD and wanted a pure bred and I did pay over $1000, however, I don't see how it is stupid.

Yeah, like Obama, who got some rare bred dog because it is 'hypoallergenic' even though there is no such thing, instead of getting a rescue dog and providing a good example.

Anyway its obvious I'm not gonna change anyone's mind here. More dog pics

I bought my pup because I wanted a pup and I wanted to be the only owner. I feel like I lucked out with my chihuahua. She's not territorial...she is very affectionate towards me and my roommate. My roommate has a boxer mix and my pup plays/annoys it all the time but they nap together too.

Shadow. Very sweet GSD...got her from the pound 2 years ago. From her teeth they think she's around 4.
