re: OS Pups Thread!
I was in an agility competition with my Boston Terrier this past weekend. Here's a video of a few of our runs if you are interested:

re: OS Pups Thread!
Thanks!
I started training this dog, Miley, around August of '07. Each Wednesday night I am at the local dog obedience club's training field working on skills for about 3 hours with my two Bostons. One class for my other Boston, Howie, and two classes for this dog Miley. I haven't really started putting Howie in competitions yet, his first big trial is in February. He just doesn't have the drive to do agility like Miley does, but he's starting to get into it.
It really doesn't take too long for a dog to learn to the obstacles, I mean a dog sees a jump and they naturally jump it or run through a tunnel. It does take work to get a dog to weave through the poles and to go all the way up and down the big platforms and not jump off early.
The main training though is the person learning how to handle the dog and run them the right way through the course. You have to go through the course in a certain order and you can't really always tell from the video, but there are more inviting obstacles that the dog wants to take that you have to pull them off of to keep them on course. Your body language as you run really dictates where the dog thinks it should go next. You really never stop learning better ways to handle your dog through courses, because the courses are always different. You just have to learn the best way to handle each dog and work on making things more precise and fast. It's a lot of fun, intense too. I've got another 3-day competition this coming up weekend (I actually turned down Iron Bowl tickets for it
), so I'm hoping for some good runs!
