Re: When did you realize you couldn't do "that anymore"
I guess I realized after grade 12 (15 years ago) that basketball was finished for me. My right ankle has been broken 4 times. I just can't get any lift anymore. Any sort of turn or twist on that ankle and I'm in absolute agony.Comment

In all reality, maybe you cat's are kind of lucky to have worked it out at a early age.
I'm way to old and broke up to keep doing the stuff I do but my brain just can't win the argument to let it go.Comment

Re: When did you realize you couldn't do "that anymore"
As a 2nd year teacher, I've realized I can get less than 5 hrs sleep and still do my job. When I was in college, I could get 2-3 hrs of sleep and be fine the next day.Comment

Re: When did you realize you couldn't do "that anymore"
I realized my senior year of college that I want and need 8 hours of sleep. I simply cannot hang out late anymore without nearly passing out. I'll still go out every now and then, but I never liked clubs so thankfully, I'm not missing much.
I still play baseball for adult leagues. I might cry the day I realize I can't pitch competitively anymore. I've long accepted that I won't make the majors - I'm 27 now and learned to accept it fully around 22. So I play for fun and I'd hate to lose that. I have no problem playing past 40 if my body will let me."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: When did you realize you couldn't do "that anymore"
That's a good one, and I'm the same way. I used to function on 4-6 hours a sleep every night, but now, even if I get 7 hours of sleep, I'm still tired. I need a solid 8 hours of sleep these days.Comment

Re: When did you realize you couldn't do "that anymore"
I realized I couldn't do that anymore when I tried to do it one day, and I just couldn't!
No seriously, I think I have quite a few more years before I lose my first ability. I'm in my physical prime right now.Last edited by Po Pimp; 10-26-2009, 01:57 AM.Comment

Re: When did you realize you couldn't do "that anymore"
I realized my dreams of playing pro baseball were finished when I struck out just about every time I was at bat one year. There came a point when the pitches became too fast and I simply didn't have the bat speed to catch up to them.New Jersey Devils- 1995, 2000, 2003

Re: When did you realize you couldn't do "that anymore"
This is a great thread.
I can definitely agree with the sleep thing. I used to pride myself on being able to function after staying out all night. As I've gotten a bit older (26 now) I appreciate a full nights sleep.
My pro basketball dreams died I think senior year of high school, when I realized college ball might be a stretch. But I think I can still play a bit.. backs a little stiffer, need to warm up a little longer but I have plenty of time to perfect my "old man tricks" before I have to rely on themComment
