HD Channels from DirectTV worth it???

I'm thinking of getting HD channels for my 40" HDTV in my room. I'm paying for it all myself. The reason I'm thinking of doing it or not is because obviously it looks good (and I'm also buying the NBA league pass) but I'm thinking not to because next year I will be going to college... I don't watch too much TV, but my older brother does and he often watches in my room. I'm just wondering if you guys think HD channels will be worth it. I'm happy enough with the NBA League pass but from everyone that has HD channels, I hear it's definitely worth it.

Once you get HD, it's hell going back to SD. I had HD a while ago, but I had to drop it in a move. I had the shakes when I first tried to watch sports. It was difficult.

I have a hard time watching the SD channels, especially after seeing them in HD. The only thing I do not like about Direct TV's receiver is I lose the HD channels quite often in any type of weather, cloud cover etc. I still can get the SD channels though, but a little frustrating at times.

After watching an NFL game in HD I will not watch it in SD anymore.

You can always just hook up an antenna and get Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS and all of your other over the air channels in HD for free.

I think it's worth it but don't buy into their 99% reliability crap.

I don't know how I ever lived without it. Especially with sports.

Just get an antenna. type in your address at www.antennaweb.org to see what stations you could pick up

Games in HD on NBC, ABC and CBS look very good. FOX is not as good, but easily better than any SD channel.

You need your dish adjusted, I rarely lost the signal, if I do, its got to be a bad storm and it might be out for 1 minute. The HD signal is not as wide as the SD, so you have to make sure its adjusted properly.

Its worth it after you pay the ridiculous $200 bucks for the box, then you still have to pay $5 a month for it. What planet came up with that deal?? Seriously- Why the hell do they make you pay the $200? Cable never made me do that.

Only benefit to having cable I guess. We pay like $9 a month for the box rental and $1 a month for the digital package.

What is the final price do you guys think of HD Channels + NBA League pass for DirectTV?

I'm just wondeirng because I might be getting laid off at work so I don't know if I should be spending my money on too much TV or not.

not sure how much the nba pass is, but HD is $10 a month, the HD box is $100 one time fee, then you pay $5 a month for it. If you only want NBA, you could probably get the cheapest package, which is $30 a month i think. Not too sure though. I just wish cable or verizon would come to my town, because I have had it with Direct TV

One big gripe I have with DTV lately is that they have taken away channels and added them to more expensive packages, most notably ESPN Classic. I love the service but the overly disgusting nickel and diming is seriously making me consider going back to Comca$t......wow I need a shower now.

You got ESPNU instead of ESPNClassic. A great trade for me as I never watch Classic, but ESPNU has some football games and a lot of basketball games I like to watch.
