LOL I thought we were simply speaking about buying a cheap vs. an elaborate/expensive casket. Why are you bringing outside extremes into the discussion..ie spending money foolishly on other things.

Re: I guess its true....Walmart sells everything.
Because you questioned the act of showing respect and I was responding with how there are far worse things people could do to "foolishly" spend the money it would take to pay for a proper/respectful burial.
And I didn't realize by your comments that you were simply speaking in terms of cheap vs elaborate casket.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I wasn't speaking of "other things" you can spend your money foolishly.
I was simply discussing CHEAP casket vs EXPENSIVE casket.
I will buy a cheap casket 500% of the time because it is POINTLESS for me to "show respect" to a dead person by spending more money on their casket. Stupid way of showing respect.
Now just because I DON'T buy an expensive casket doesn't mean I will spend that "remaining" money on something foolish.Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

Re: I guess its true....Walmart sells everything.
I didn't say that you would. Again, you say its POINTLESS to "show respect" by spending more money on a dead person's casket. But again, some people want the best and I don't see how they could be labeled "stupid" for paying for a higher priced casket if thats what they choose to do.I wasn't speaking of "other things" you can spend your money foolishly.

You have your opinion on showing respect for a deceased loved one, and other people have theirs. Not sure what makes your opinion so much better that you can label someone else as stupid for being willing to pay more money for a casket.
Maybe they should label you as cheap.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: I guess its true....Walmart sells everything.
I might have been harsh to use the word stupid. I am sorry.
But I still feel it is a pointless gesture. It isn't cost efficient at all. Still don't agree that it is showing "respect" to a loved one by buying them a more EXPENSIVE casket. Just a _____ (use whatever word you want besides stupid) way of showing RESPECT to someone. Spending more money on them = Respect. Yea.
Cheap? Who me? Oh I know. Penny pincher to the extremeConcrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

I understand your opinion is that its a pointless to spend above x amount of dollars on a casket for a "dead person".I might have been harsh to use the word stupid. I am sorry.

But who's to say what "price" a family should spend to show respect and honor for their deceased loved one? I'm certainly not going to tell someone that they were foolish for spending x amount of dollars or call them cheap for not spending x amount of dollars to bury their loved one.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: I guess its true....Walmart sells everything.
No the who idea of, "SPending X amount of money" is a form of showing respect is what I am disagreeing with.
Whatever that amount is doesn't matter.
But for me to say, "If I spend this amount of money on this person means I am respecting them more" is just crazy to me.
I wouldn't TELL anyone that they are foolish but if I am a part of the burial process I damn well would reccomend a cheaper casket.Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

Re: I guess its true....Walmart sells everything.
Nobody is saying that people are stating..."hey we have to spend x amount of dollars to show respect", nor is anyone stating that more money equates to more respect.
The question was asked what is the point of a nice casket and my response was that people view having a nice casket as respectful towards the deceased. Nobody was putting a price on anything.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

So on the opposite side of the spectrum, does that mean if you DON'T buy them a nice casket (if you are fully capable financially) is that a sign of disrespect to that dead loved one?Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

Re: I guess its true....Walmart sells everything.
nope. People honor and respect in their own way. Money has no bearing on respect.
If Family A spends $5,000 on a funeral and burial and Family B spends $500, it doesn't mean that Family A is more respectful of their deceased loved one than Family B. It also doesn't mean that Family A is foolish just as it doesn't mean that Family B is cheap.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: I guess its true....Walmart sells everything.
Yes, if you can afford it you should buy them a nice casket. We did for my Grandma and Brother. It is a sign of respect for what they meant too you on this Earth!
On the flip side if you can't afford then no it is not a sign of disrespect.Comment
