Moving to San Antonio
So, I've been to San Antonio once, but it was only for basic training, so I never really got to experience anything there, except for one day at the Riverwalk and the Alamo. Today, I found out that I'll be transferring there early next year. Anyone familiar with the area? Places to live, places to avoid, things to do for fun? Please, let me know if you can help out.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishTags: None -

Yeah man, I live in Dallas, but i got to SA all the time. It's a great city! You've got a franchise (Spurs), UTSA football (not bad), great restuarants and culture. Downtown SA is really nice too. As far as places to live, I can'te really help you, but I can tell you where to avoid. The Northside of the city. It's just a bad area. Fiesta Texas, Sea World. You'll like it man.PSN: xxplosive1984Originally posted by J. ColeFool me one time that's shame on you. Fool me twice can't put the blame on you. Fool me three times, **** the peace sign, load the chopper let it rain on you.

Re: Moving to San Antonio
I use to have a house in the South west part of town which is about 10 minutes away from Lackland/Kelly/Medina bases. I was living off of Potranco Road right across the street from Luna Middle school. The housing area is called Rustic Oaks. However, they are building like crazy out there and the area is nice. There is also plans to put a new high school that way (in case you have kids that age). Sea World was about five minutes from the house, all shopping was about 2 minutes. The only items that were 15-30 minutes was the airport, Alamo dome, ATT Center, downtown and riverwalk.

P.S. I had to move because of a job transfer. Just in case anybody is wondering.Comment

Re: Moving to San Antonio
Two great things about SA....
1.) It's close to Austin.
2.) Tons of fine Latina/Hispanic/Mexican women. My personal favorite. (See my arena.)
Congrats dude! You hit the jackpot!!
Real quick funny story. My buddy and I are mail carriers with the USPS. He used to always go to SA to party and stuff. I am married/clueless so I asked him why go all the way to SA just to party when you live in Austin?
He told me a great line I will never forget..."In Austin, when you tell a girl you are a mailman that is one step above a garbageman. In SA, you tell 'em you're a mailman and you're one notch below a Doctor."Comment

Re: Moving to San Antonio
Yeah I'm a medic in the Army and my wife is from the area so I will say this off the bat..... Learn Spanish if you don't already know it. When she wakes up in the morning I'll ask her the questions you need answers to, but just from memory I wanna say the North side is the calm side. So are you getting stationed at Langley (?) or Fort Sam Houston? So, I've been to San Antonio once, but it was only for basic training, so I never really got to experience anything there, except for one day at the Riverwalk and the Alamo. Re: Moving to San Antonio
I also did basic at Lackland, but I also met a good friend while in the AF who was from SA. When we were stationed in Wichita Falls and in Biloxi we used to party it up in SA, Panama City, and in New Orleans. Be careful in SA, as there are a lot of gangs and you have to watch yourself at all times. It is a wonderful city, but it is like any major city.
P.S.
Fiesta has more fine women than any place I have EVER been, especially if you like Latinas.Comment

Thanks for all the info everyone. I'm not too big into basketball, but I'm all about the music scene, so I have a feeling I'll be spending my weekends in Austin based off of what I've heard.
madscientist, I've lived in LA, San Diego, Vegas, Seattle, and Honolulu, so I'm pretty comfortable with the big cities, and how to avoid too much trouble. Thanks for the head's up though. I keep hearing that for every nice thing about SA, there's one more bad thing to go with it, but I'm not too worried. Just want to make sure that I live in a somewhat decent neighborhood.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment
