I don't want this thread to get locked or get political, but if that's true, that surprises me.

      It's not true.

We aren't, at least publicly, supposed to speak out negatively against our foreign policy or operations we are engaged in.

It's not true, of course you have people who say I don't want to deploy I don't want to leave my family or something, but I've never heard someone say they didn't want to deploy over foreign policy, heres a hint if your not pleased with that were doing over there don't sign up with the armed forces or get out.

I was talking about within their own Unit, 99% of soldiers are wise enough to keep their trap shut when talking publicly.I Should have clarified my statement

Most people dont really want to Deploy, its just one of those things that are part of the Job. I personally did not mind it all that much. When People would ask me If I wanted to deploy I would usually tell them " I live in Hawaii and the place were going to is over 100 degrees every day, what do you think"

You should really try to qualify your statements. I don't think "most" people don't want to deploy. Most people I work with don't really mind it. Everyone has either enlisted or re-enlisted since 9/11 and know exactly what to expect and what they're getting into.

Well my view is probably skewed considering I did live in a tropical Paradise. The Majority of soldiers I worked with would have much rather of stayed with their Family than go somewhere and risk life and limb. But like I said, we do it anyways because its part of the job. These were just my personal observations though, The Military is different everywhere.

My personal observation is the majority of those soldiers need to get out of the military. The key word here is "Soldier". If they wanted to be a 9-5 family man then they should have never enlisted. I served in a "Combat Arms" MOS. We trained to go to war 6 days a week and our performance and attitude reflected that in combat. I love my family very much, but I enlisted to serve my country first. My duty/mission always came first. My wife understood and supported me all the way. If I wasn't completely committed to the mission,I put my life as well as others in my squad in jeopardy. That's unacceptable.

I agree with this. You know what you're signing up for when you sign the paperwork. Like you said,I love my family, but the mission always came first. And my family understood that.

Ok, Perhaps I am not making this Clear enough. I am saying that the majority of people I worked with would rather not have deployed. Kind of like you would rather not go to the Dentists office but you do anyways because you dont want your teeth to fall out. So you three guys are basically saying you would rather be deployed than be home, because What I am saying is the Opposite.

When it comes down to it though, my personal feelings did not matter much. Like Ltgen said, the mission always came first.

I get what you were saying, of course people arent going to be happy about leaving their wife and kids but that doesnt mean they arent going to deploy and be able to complete the mission over there. When I deployed I didn't want to leave my then fiance, but doesn't mean I wasn't going to go over there and get one of my buddies killed because my heart wasn't in it.

I think its tough for young people going on their 1st deployment. I was 19 when I deployed and of course I was nervous, got home-sick all that stuff but I went their and did what I had to do.

But I do agree that any one who signs that contract knows what they are getting in to, and serving your country and honoring your contract comes 1st. People who try to get out of deployments and use politics to try to get out of them make me sick.

Yea, I thought the first deployment was terrible.

Until I saw that paycheck. Ballin'!

When I go to Afghanistan as a Captain in March, I'm going to be making bank. So it has it's upsides.
"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."

E-2 usually means single and no kids without the bills that go along with years in the military so it all kind of evens out.
