It is a shame people under estimate how good they are and have no idea all of the fun weapons our military has at its disposal should the need ever arise.

      Really?
They must have all gotten their vacation weeks at the same time around 8 years ago.
      They missed a doozy.
      That one hurt.
Sorry.....I spent one day avoiding 110 stories coming down on me and then the better part of a year digging, sifting and going to funerals....and a lot of us are still trying to take care of some of the families where fathers-husbands-sons are gone now.
You guys are up next if you feel that confident.(although I can guarantee I know where you guys will be and I will be.)
I'm not trying to offend you guys...but that's easy talk from your computer chair.

I don't underestimate anything. As knight posted earlier, they don't catch everything. It's a high stakes job.

If they miss one thing, anyone here, and many many more could wind up dead. I don't care how good they are, it's still a scary prospect.

            Thank you for reminding me.
I'm not knocking our intelligence agencies and making them out as inept.
They do the best they can.
But..for the most part....they are up against people who do NOTHING else except figure out ways to **** us up. 24/7...that's what they do...while we're posting on O.S....arguing about Madden and how there should be collision detection in The Show.
We're ******* and soft.....that's fine as long as we don't get complacent about it.
Yep...it's about that time we're getting complacent again.

What's easy to talk from our computer chair?

I am not going to get into an argument over emotional appeals with you, and it really has nothing to do with anything at hand.

If the current focus on security and the laws currently on the books were around in 2001, September 11th wouldn't have happened.

I challenge you to tell me where I will be or where you will be when any given situation occurs.

                I'm sure they can't.

                The NSA is completely incompetent.

For all we know, the people who did those things are tortured and put up in some blacksite in Poland or Thailand.

                  Re: Cyberwar

The problem with all of this is we HAVE become complacent. Most youths (I'm 27) can't build a tent or wire a shack for heat. We're not just complacent we're incompetent.

I had a friend getting a masters in HR (whatever the **** that is) say we now provide services, not goods. uh... guys. If we don't make things (like missiles, peace, food and guns) someone's gonna screw us up bad.

Btw, I sell manufacturing tools. My best customer says they're building missile rack to bomb Iran. He said these things are equipped specifically for Iran.

                  It's happening.

And people like Knight (who is obviously a nice man), should not be castigated for voicing an opinion.

And the US is very vulnerable to cyber attack. We're not as smart as we think we are.

We are a great nation, but not the smartest. We're still young.

                  And I love my country.

I don't you can go anywhere in the world and find people who can "wire a shack for heat" (why would you even want to?).

                    Not really

"Screwing" the US is a suicide pact. The only state with the capability of coming close to doing that is China, but since their reserves are in our currency and we're the largest consumer of their goods, there's no reason for them to do such. They will line step habitually, but they can't afford to "screw us bad."

We also make a ton of food and weapons. When quality is considered, the US is the leader in all four things you mention.

We are a great nation, but not the smartest. We're still young.
In their current forms, the United States is probably a top 5 oldest country. The only ones I can think of older are the UK, China, and Switzerland.
