    Where Should I Move?

My girlfriend and I have recently begun discussing moving to somewhere in the country, possibly the east coast. We've lived in Washington our entire lives and personally, I would like to move somewhere even if only for a few years just to get out of this state and see what else is out there. I've thought about going to graduate school somewhere, but I also wouldn't mind just packing up and moving somewhere to start over while we're both still young.

Anyway, looking for some suggestions. Let me know why as well. I'd prefer a place that gets close to all four seasons (I like to have sun and snow), is a nice/friendly area, and place that is not too expensive to live. So far, we've talked about North Carolina, Connecticut, northern California, Ohio, Colorado, and Pennsylvania.

    Any suggestions?

Stay away from PA. Nothing to do here, and if you ever have kids, we have the worst state university system in the country with a bunch of joke schools.

Well I moved to Charlotte from Vegas back in June and the weather out here is wacky as hell. So far it has ranged from the high 90s during the summer to the low 30s at night, its rained for days, leaves have changed already but it's damn near 77 degrees today.

You've got some professional sport teams in Charlotte, you got the beach couple of hours away and then you got the mountains couple hours away. Take your pick.

Honestly, if you can afford it, I would narrow it down to a couple places and visit before making a decision. Also, I'm not sure how serious you and your girlfriend are but make damn sure this is something you want to do as well.

            Re: Where Should I Move?

            Well I have lived in

            1. South Bend(25 years)
            2. Indianapolis
            3. Des Moines
            4. Baton Rouge
            5. Michigan
            6. Ohio ( Aurora/Bowling Grn )
            7. Omaha
            8. Denver ( current )

Out of all those places.......Indy and Denver are my favorites by far. Denver is awesome because so many things to do, and when I drive to my office in the morning, I get to look at the snow capped Rocky Mnts.

Indy is awesome because there a lot of things to do downtown..Colts, Pacers, Indy 500, Brickyard 400. Plus, you can easily drive to Chicago, Cincy, St. Louis, L'ville...

Just make sure where ever you guys go...there is always something that is of "personal" interest to you. That's how we can overlook some of the bad things in certain areas.

My girlfriend and I are practically married. Been together 4 years and it's just a matter of time before we end up getting married.

I like the wacky weather though. I enjoy warmer summers and cooler winters, as I like both sunny days and snowy days. Pro sports and D1 college sports within driving distance is a huge plus for me as well.

I've just always been around the same sized towns in the same area of Washington and need a change of scenery, even if only for a few years. I'd like to travel around looking at different places, but I just don't have enough money to do that right now.

How about New Jersey? If it's cold out you can stay warm by wearing 4 polos at once.

                  Lol. Well done.

Anyway, I feel Virginia's a nice place to live. I like it down the SW part, but it's got bigger cities as well, up near the capitol. Plus Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Richmond are also kind of big.

Are you looking for apartments, houses, as for living arrangements? As it's relatively cheap down here in SW VA, but that being said, it's slower than a big city, and there are not as many office-type jobs.

If you have any questions, I'd be sure to attempt to answer them... I'm sure some of the other Virginians on here would be available to do so as well. I do have to admit, I'm more knowledgeable about SW VA than I am about NOVA and over on the coast, as I've lived here all my life.

Do not move to NOVA. There are already to many people in that area.

                      Damn, dude. Harsh.

I really like southwestern PA... great football (at ALL levels - HS, College, Pro), rolling hills covered in trees (beautiful in the autumn), and Pittsburgh is perhaps one of the most underrated cities in the north east... it's very clean, it's getting more and more attractive visually, and it's one of the greatest cities for people in the health and medicinal professions. I've lived there all my life (at school now) and I wouldn't mind staying in the same general area.

As for the state schools being "a joke", that's also inaccurate. Penn State is one of the top institutions in the world. Great engineering, business, and communications schools, among other programs. The University of Pittsburgh is also one of the great public schools in the northeast for anything to do with medicine or health, and I think they're pretty top notch in science. And both schools have extensive branch campuses if the kids can't afford to go strait to main campus because of money or grades (or both).

As for there being nothing to do, that obviously depends on where you live in PA. There isn't much to do where I live (though it obviously didn't bother me) and clearly not where you live, but you can get to a different area in southwestern PA or southeastern PA or even south central PA and find a neighborhood that has lots of movie theatres and malls and museums and such.

if you like big temperature changes you could go to the midwest. Here in South Dakota it can be -20 and it can be 105
