Worst:

This is when I was a kid and I received a calculator. This was one of those calculators you would get from a stock room from a business office with a solar panel on it. This was after my parents got the rest of the cousins awesome gifts like remote control cars and sports equipment, I was left with a calculator and my brother 12 coloring pencils, not even a coloring book to go with it.

I don't remember how I felt, probably disappointed but I knew my parents took that to heart and called them out after. I'm glad she did because I think I got a super nintendo after that so it was all good.

Since then, I never slacked on gifts for kids in my family. They always get something awesome from uncle Mike.


Best:

Probably my blu ray player. I use that thing to death.

Worst: A Toaster. My bro and I were like 5 and 8 and there was one large box under the tree to both of us. We thought this was our big gift and had no idea what it could be. Our parents told us we could open one gift on Xmas eve in front of all of our aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents and we open a toaster. Our parents thought it was hillarios...they needed a toaster and wanted a good laugh and I guess got both.

Best: A book about me! Last year my wife went online to some site that makes books and was secretly able to collect and gather many of my old baseball pictures, newspaper articles, etc. from high school and college and scan them and put them together in a nice little hard cover book that I opened on Chrismas. By far one of the coolest things anyone has ever done for me.

Best: A scrapbook my girlfriend had made of our college years together and all the trips we took. It was a complete surprise and really awesome.

Worst: N'Sync Christmas CD when I was 18 from my aunt. No joke.

Best: When I was 11 my 7 year old sister and I got a Newfoundland puppy. We actually went to the breeders 2 or 3 days before Christmas and got to pick it out. Thor was the best dog in the world.

Worst: Like some of you other guys, I have relatives who regularly give weird gifts (all on my dads side) particularly this one aunt and uncle. One year they actually got me a sign that said "Newfy Xing" on it with the silhouette of a walking Newfoundland. It was like one of those pedestrian crossing signs you see on the roads except with a Newfoundland. We ended up just hanging it on the gate to our back yard where Thor's pen was.

Also, I had this neighbor who somehow got the idea that I loved chocolate covered cherries and would get me a box every year. I do not nor have I ever liked cherries, chocolate covered or otherwise.

Worst: All in the same year.. I think this is when holiday excitement came crashing down:

- 2 bags of Doritos taped together.
- An imitation soccer ball that was the size of a softball with MLS teams on it.
- 2 pieces of transparent blue plastic melted together - one was a straight square and one was a hollow cylinder. I actually had to ask what it was. What was it? A pencil holder.
- And last but not least: An "operation game" pen. Remember the board game "operation"? You try to pick these bones out of a person with tweezers without touching the charged rim around the orifice of where they lay. If you touched the rim, it'd "buzz" and you'd lose. It was a race against the lock. Well the operation pen has one bone and comes with a separate mini tweezers to pick out the one bone whenever you feel.

All those gifts came the same year. I was 16 freaking years old! I have some very stupid relatives... I also bet nobody can top that for a crappy child Christmas!

I laughed too hard at this. Just whenever you feel like it, huh?

Best: Last year my girl got me an autographed Terry Bradshaw jersey along with a Big Ben signed hat.

Worst: When I lived with my mother, one of my neighbors (and she's a really nice lady, but a little weird) gave me a bottle of weird smelling cologne..... already opened and half gone.

Worst gift: When the person put's no thought into the gift. Getting anything for someone is assinine. Might as well not got them anything at all.

As for "it's the thought that counts", well, when there is no thought put into the gift, this does not apply.
