I just learned that after all my bills have been paid I will have $200 for food and gas for my girls and me for the entire month of February. She took her paycheck and left me with the same amount of bills as always. I'm getting a beating while she lives in fantasy land.

You may qualify for emergency assistance: food stamps / medicare / medicade / HEAP. etc....

It's another hit to your pride to go down that road, but there's kids involved, so...

Yeah it very well may be, but it's an option to consider. This is just to weather the storm until the court issues are settled.

Wow, it's gonna be tough to juggle the finances when you take out your "wife's" portion.

On the bright side, this is another black mark against her to bring up in court. She's abandoned not only her husband and family physically and emotionally, but financially as well. That's just disgusting on her part. But it all comes back around...

I'm all for forgiveness, but this lady needs to suffer some consequences. You can't leave your family out to dry like she has. I really hope your lawyer goes to town on her. If you don't get full custody it'll be a damn crime.

My teenager knows what's what, and she has made a few comments on how I'm a better mom than mom ever was, how much better she eats at home now, and generally how much better the household is run. There's a lot of pride involved in taking care of my girls, and I'm going to get the job done no matter what it takes.

You guys are great. I got real choked up today because I realized I'm probably gonna have to go to the local foodbank to make it. That hurts, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm going to try to eat very little.

longshadow, if I may extend a piece of advice.
If your wife will agree to this, use an arbitrator instead of a lawyer.
You will save thousands of dollars. And the process isn't as volatile either.
Both sides will gain a lot by going to arbitration over lawyering-up. All lawyers want to do is bleed both clients dry so there's barely anything left when it's over.

I've known people who've used both methods and the couples that chose an arbitrator all had far better results and feelings afterward than those that chose the lawyer route.

Arbitrators are hit and miss. I used them when I go divorced and got bent over. The scales were tipped in her favor. He is going to need a lawyer because he is going against the system so to speak where he would get the custody of the children. He needs someone looking out for his sole interest with regards to the children. I am not a huge fan of lawyers but unfortunately they are necessary at times whether we like it or not.

Man, sorry to hear this. I had a friend who's wife taught and she left him for the principal. These situations suck, especially when kids are involved.
