    Guns

So what do you have to do to legally own a gun? I live in Texas so I figure the laws aren't that strict. I'm 20, would I need a license? I'd prefer a handgun, but if I have to go rifle or shotgun that is fine. I want to go through all the right channels to get it, plus I'd make a trip to a gun range so I can safely use it and plan on learning from a pro as I have little experience.

I live in a nice part of town, but in the past couple years we have had vandals steal a lawnmower and stuff from our garage. Last summer we saw flashlights shining in our backyard. I realized then our only protection was to turn on the lights and let our dogs out. Nothing violent, but you never know.

    Re: Guns

You can go to the gun range and find out all the info. They should have some classes available that you can take.

All you have to do is fill out the paperwork, wait for your background check to come back and then purchase the gun.

However if you want to carry it you have to go through a concealed carry class. After the class you have to submit to carry within your county and be approved. Its easy to do but can be expensive!

After talking with a contractor who used to work at a gun club, IMO you really need to be trained not in how to use the gun, but how to be disciplined and react to situations correctly. If you point a loaded gun at me, I can charge you with assault. Not something to joke around with...

Guess it depends on the gun. If your just wanting to do some deer hunting a nice shotgun or rifle should be easy as going into Bass Pro Shops and picking out the one that fits your liking.

If it's for protection, there's really no reason to get a handgun.

Some people do not feel comfortable using a rifle...even a shotgun(which is better for close quarters...but a handgun is better than a rifle in close)

Good point...and I have nothing against guns, just guns in the hands of people who don't respect them and know how to use them...nothing worse than an idiot with a gun IMO

You just need to fill out some paper work. It's pretty simple. My brother and law transferred my AR's and AK's to me for free.
