That line literally had me dying of laughter!

I'm from Central Florida so it is especially funny to me. They call Checkers by a different name up here: Rallys.

      Re: Some people

I once had a moment that's really only funny if you watch it in a movie.

My friends and I were walking out of Best Buy and we saw a homeless guy sitting, head down and holding a mug for coins. He looks at us and probably thought we were easy targets, so as we're walking, talking, laughing on our way to my friend's car, I guess he slowly gets up and starts trailing us. We get to the car and I get into shotgun, and my friend the driver just got a new CD and wanted to put it in, so he was taking off the shrink wrap. I look to my right and see the homeless guy slowly barging at us, and I go, "Uh, Matt... drive... now." He keeps saying, "Hold on, I almost got it." And I just keep going, "Drive, drive right now!"

When he puts in the CD and he turns on the engine, the homeless guy knocks loudly on my window and freaks the **** out of me. My friend goes, "... Oh," and rolls down the window, and I simply have to lean back and turn my head away as the guy leans inside the car, arms leaning into the car and everything. He says, "'Scuse me sirs, I'm looking to get one of those plasma screens inside. You wouldn't happen to have any sort of loose change on you, would'yas?" They all do that "Uh, sorry... no," thing as I'm just silent and not even looking. He leans a bit further into the car and says, "Please? Anything would help me get that for my family." Then I just reach into my pocket and take out about 80 cents or so and put them in his hands that are right next to mine, because I don't think he would have left otherwise. He smiles at me and says, "Thank you, kind sir," and does a light double-slap on my cheek as he finally leaves.

My friend gave me a dollar later, apologizing for never leaving earlier.

If I was in your shoes, I would have punched him in the face as hard as I could have. Leaning into a strangers car is a big no no.

So he walks over to the line, waits for about thirty seconds, then sprints towards the door with all of my ten dollars. Before getting outside, he turned to me and said "Screw you, I'm goin' to CHECKERS!" and then bolted off down the street.

I think back to the South Park episode where Stan saves up 60 bucks to buy a video game, but begins feeling bad for this homeless guy that lives nearby. So instead of buying the game, he gives the homeless man his money. The guy counts the money and says "That's it? That's all you got?" and Stan ends up regretting giving up the money.

It's hard not to become cynical toward the homeless. They prey on people's goodwill and trust and the vast majority of them are riddled with mental problems and substance abuse issues. Homelessness is way down on my list of charities/causes in our country that need support. It's almost a lost cause, and things like poverty, education, and youth deserve much more attention.
LMAO! That's a classic bum for you. You live and you learn man. Like you said, there are many other worthy causes to give to.

I've never had that situation occur, but I know I'd give in just to make sure I don't get a knife/gun pulled on me.

              Re: Some people

              Here's my funny story:

My lady & I are at an intersection and a guy is holding up a sign and it says: "Dell contractor. Laid off. Need $2 for a beer." I had just lost my job at Dell a monthy before which is 2 blocks away so it made sense. In my mind I thought, hell, at least the guy is being honest, so we rolled down the window and gave the guy $2.

He said thanks very much and proceeded to walk towards the front of the car. We thought he was walking towards the shopping plaza but then the man suddenly stops in front of the car, dead center. He motions his right arm upwards & points a finger straight into the sky. From there he does a 360 spin, swings his hand down towards the hood, makes the sign of the cross on my Honda H, then makes the LeBron James explosion motion and let's out a big Ric Flair "WhOOOOO!" and walks off happy. Honestly, it made our day.

Another one involved a homeless guy just asking for food. I was going to McD on a lunch break and saw he had a doggie. I'm a sucker for dogs even though I know better but something felt right about getting him something. So I bought him a couple $1 burgers and drove up and handed it to him. The guy was very happy and appreciated and as I drove off I saw one of the most heart-warming things ever: the guy pulls a burger out, rips it in half and feeds it to his dog as he pats his head. Of course, the pup looks super happy and starts to lick the guy's face. Instead of worrying about himself first, he worried about his buddy. People like that really make me have hope for mankind even when we are at our worst.

Since those days I haven't given any money to anyone, but it goes to show not all of those guys are scumbags but probably the large majority of them are.

                Re: Some people

On an episode of Intervention, there was this homeless guy on drugs and he'd run these scams all the time. Ask for cash for food, gas, or a bus pass and then go buy drugs with it...

Nowadays I just say "Sorry, I don't have any cash on me, just credit cards" and get away as quick as possible. It's a pretty quality excuse and they usually leave you alone.

On another note when my son was little (4 maybe) a guy and gal approached us with the money for gas thing and he gave them the 2 dollars he had. We then saw them a few hours later smoking on a corner and he said. "I thought they needed money for gas"? I told him. "It doesn't matter what they needed the money for, all that matters is you gave it to them for the reason they asked, help".

He still doesn't get it but someday he will.

It was around Thanksgiving and I'm in a drive-thru line at Dunkin' Donuts. It was like 5:45 AM, so it's still pitch black dark. There's a car in front of me at the window and a couple of cars behind me. And this is one of those drive-thrus where you have to turn and there is no way out as there is the building beside you on one side and bushes and parking lot on the other.

So, anyway, I'm waiting...and I see something move from the cut of my left eye. Out of the dark emerged this bastard coming slowly towards my vehicle. At this point, I'm thinking the worse, so I got an adrenaline rush. I heard the guy say something about money for bus fare, but before he could finish, I yell "Yo, dude! What da f*** ya doin'?!"

LOL guy was like "My bad, my bad." and walked away.

But I'm not gonna lie. I was knocked outta sorts from then on.

Nowadays I just say "Sorry, I don't have any cash on me, just credit cards" and get away as quick as possible. It's a pretty quality excuse and they usually leave you alone.
LoL..I think I saw that episode..dude was making like 100 bucks an hour scamming them and proud of it.
Yeah, when I was younger I would cave in sometimes for these people because it's hard for me to say no sometimes. Thank God for debit cards now though cause I carry no cash most times now.
