    Ticket and insurance

So my genius friend got a ticket for going 87 in a 70. Problem is she was driving 2 hours to meet a friend without her parents knowledge, so the ticket is from a place she wasn't supposed to be.

She is on their insurance. If she just pays the ticket and does Defensive Driving will the insurance company ever contact them about the ticket? I'm in Texas, but I figure it will vary by state.

It's funny cuz she knew I didn't want her to go and I joked around and said it's gonna suck if you get a ticket.

Well, If I were her I would tell my Parents. Everyone gets a speeding ticket at some point so its not a huge deal. But if you get a Lawyer, they can probably get the ticket down to a non moving violation, which would not raise your insurance. If she just pays the ticket, it will show up and result in slightly higher insurance.

I recommend going 10 above the speed limit, that seems to be the magic number where you wont get a ticket. I have not had a ticket since I was 16 and I am 25 now.

Just do the defensive driving, its usually about $100 and it goes off your record and insurance.

Texas. We have two interstates that get up to 70 and another going out it West Texas where there is nothing but highway and it's 80

So in summery if she does defensive driving there will no record on her insurance? It's not the ticket she is worried about, it's the fact she got it somewhere she lied about being about. Dumb I know, I let her have it.

She ALWAYS makes fun of me for going slow. I value my money to much so I usually never go more then 5 over unless I know there is no cop around for sure.

Your insurance gets notified but if you do the DD your rates don't go up.

That's probably what I'll try to get her to do. At least help her make up a story, the ticket occured on the way so only about 45 minutes from home. Any suggestions? haha

She should just 'fess up. Won't be that big a deal in the long run. At least in SC...they will reduce your ticket if you show up to court on the court date and pay the fine.

I've never gotten a speeding ticket but decided to make a right turn on a restricted street during certain hours (9AM-4PM). Was a $180 ticket....got reduced to $145.

She needs to come clean. The parents are probably close with their insurance company. They will tell them if something like this happens.

Ya she is going to. Once I told her that the insurance company is notified no matter what she does I convinced her that just fessing up tomorrow is better for the long run.

The Judge can give a suspended sentence. For example, a 6 month suspended sentence will give your friend six months to pay her fine, and as long as she doesn't get in trouble during that period, it will stay off her record. Could be something worth pursuing, but don't tell her this until she fesses up with the 'rents. Mom and dad will know exactly what to do about it.

                          Re: Ticket and insurance

Insurance companies are not notified of tickets. It goes on what's called a CLUE Report. If they are on a company and been there awhile, the company may only order it yearly, or every other year. Depends on the company. If they go to a new company, it's ordered with all new insurance quotes by default, so even if she kept it quiet, it would show up.

Defensive driving courses doesn't remove the violation from your insurance record. It will still show up, but the discount from the course may offset the ticket increase.

                          Good luck.

don't forget the driving defensive course removes points from your license too.

Points on your license have nothing to do with insurance points, they are completely different.
