Re: Heavy Internet use linked to depression
LOL if you sitting on the computer all day waiting for other OSers to come online, then you have no life what so ever. I knew people like that in yahoo chat 6 years ago. They literally sit in the chat room all day waiting for other people they knew from chat to get off work and come into the room.Comment

Re: Heavy Internet use linked to depression
I could definitely see how sitting around on the computer all day long could be depressing. Human beings need a certain amount of actual human contact. Whether it be voice, sight, touch, whatever..Favorite Sports Teams
NFL - Carolina Panthers
NBA - Charlotte Hornets
MLB - Cincinnati Reds
College Basketball - Wake Forest
NCAA Football - Appalachian StateComment

Re: Heavy Internet use linked to depression
The only reason i'm on the internet all the time is because I listen to music when I'm studying/homework, open facebook when i'm on the Xbox, and then the rest of my down time is browsing.
The older me and my friends get, the less we want to go anywhere. And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Re: Heavy Internet use linked to depression
I highly doubt that statistic is all completely true. It'd be better if they'd take into account the amount of people that were ALREADY depressed before heavy internet usage.Indianapolis Colts
Indiana Pacers
Indiana Hoosiers
Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Common sense would tell you the people visiting those types of sites are compensating for a lack of a social life, something which already causes depression. Chicken or the egg.Comment

Re: Heavy Internet use linked to depression
I believe it. This is why I spend 1/10th the amount of time on OS as I used to. I used to be on OS for hours a day, but now I'm on at most 15 minutes per day (OS is one of the 3 sites I visit daily outside of bank/investment sites and my personal email).
Part of it is like what ehh stated... My current job and responsibilities are 10x busier/more demanding than previous jobs and I don't have the time to be on OS. When I'm at home, I usually have too many other things to do to be on the internet. Although, I do find that I wind up surfing OS when watching sports though (ie: watching the Olympics right now).
In any case, I think the internet is great in small doses, but too much of it is not good for anyone.Last edited by mjb2124; 02-13-2010, 09:04 PM.Comment
