Re: Peanut Butter
The only time I would put peanut butter in the fridge if it is the all natural kind. The kind you have to stir up before you use it. Any other peanut butter is in the cupboard. Too hard to spread peanut butter if it is refrigerated. Jif is king.Comment

Re: Peanut Butter
1. Just shows how many of you use REAL peanut butter. REAL butter butter tells you to put in fridge after opening.
2. Trader Joes and Whole Foods have very cheap/good peanut butters. Less than $2. Comparable to Skippy/Jif or any super-processed peanut butter.
3. For those that have issues with spread cold peanut butter, place your knife over the stove for a few seconds to heat it up and then spread your PB.
4. I love the taste of cold peanut butter on sandwiches. And Stumble I have put a little sea salt on my peanut butter sandwiches thanks to you.
5. Yea folks, stop eating that fake stuffLast edited by DC; 04-08-2010, 09:01 PM.Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

Re: Peanut Butter
Being super calorie dense is a great thing, most athletes need to get more calories in their diet and PB is a great way to do it. Re: Peanut Butter
Natural peanut butters need to be refrigerated because they don't contain any extra oils used as stabilizers to keep the product from separating. That's why you'll see a blend of either partially or fully hydrogenated oils on the label of standard peanut butters. For those who are concerned about trans fats; avoid partially hydrogenated oils because they are a very common source of a lot of trans fat.
If you actually compare the amount of sugar per serving of normal and natural peanut butter, it's pretty similar. I know JIF brand peanut butter adds molasses to gain a trademark flavor. Natural peanut butters are generally only peanuts and salt, so you'll definitely get a more fatty, nutty taste coming through instead of the mix of sweet and nutty in normal peanut butters.
I've bought both kinds for years on and off. I'm really not picky and like anything peanut butter, so I generally get anything that's on sale. I don't see enough health concern with normal peanut butter to motivate a more expensive purchase. I mean, both products are very calorie dense, and the difference is a small amount of stabilizing oils and a gram or 2 of sugar per serving.
I will say this: do NOT buy reduced fat peanut butter. All they do is blend in a good amount of corn syrup to lower the fat percentage, but it raises the carbohydrates from a bad source (corn syrup). Also, it's a waste of your money... corn syrup costs less than peanut butter so you're paying the same for less.Xbox Live Gamertag: CreatineKasey
