This is what I was thinking. If he just cut it off after about 5-10 seconds and did nothing but the butt shaking I don't think it would have been a problem.

I'm just really surprised you would say something like this, quite honestly.

Lap dances aren't for school. That sort of behavior shouldn't be allowed from the students and especially not from the teachers.

If the teachers wanted a pep rally of their own and they engaged in such activity then I would say: It's adults with adults hanging out.

But they were in a school in the presence of high school students. Sure, those students have likely seen worse (much worse), but the idea is that the behavior should not be promoted in school.

Trust me, I'm one of those that thinks sex gets a really bad rep while violence seems to slide in this country (especially in media), but neither should be allowed within a school activity.

That's really it. If those two teachers want to do that in private or outside of the school then that's on them. Though, I'd also argue that if they did it at a student party off school grounds, it still wouldn't be the best idea.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Yep. Inappropriate. I believe schools should be the opposite of this type of stuff. I don't have any kids, but if I had a kid and that happened at my kid's high school I'd be really angry. I know my girlfriend would be irate (elementary school teacher). It doesn't have to do with religion; it has to do with values and influences.

For some kids these teachers are their major influence on the route they take in life at a very important crossroads. Acknowledging and promoting those kinds of actions can do no good.

I can't imagine caring too much. Now, if the teachers were forcing the kids to do it, I'd take issue, but that did not occur.
They would be fired where I grew up. I'm super laid back and have very liberal views, but teachers shouldn't do that. It's like they're trying for student's approval which they shouldn't worry about ever. That was ridiculous and awkward.

Wow, couple of morons. Of course they deserve to be suspended. I'm no prude, but having a teacher simulate going down on the other one in front of an entire middle school is freaking ridiculous.

Maybe in first or second grade teachers are role models, but by high school, I think kids are a little past that.

I'm not saying they "should" do it, I'm saying that I wouldn't particularly care.

It's like when someone throws up outside of a bar. Should you get drunk enough that you have to throw up in public? No. Is it that big of a deal? No.

This line is absolutely hilarious. . .because it's actually a good point. I just never imagined it'd ever have to be said.

Thats what I said earlier in this thread. If 2 students did that at the pep rally or anywhere on school grounds they would face punishment and the teachers would be all over them. The teachers were wrong here and should face a tougher punishment then the students would get because they are authority figures.

I believe I misspoke. What I meant was that there are bounds that the teachers broke (or at least pushed) that allow the students to believe that they can do at least as much as the teachers do. Or maybe they try something else and say that they believe it's still within those bounds. Or perhaps they wonder where the bound really is, and just try whatever anyway.

The instant one of those teachers hypocritically punishes them for something that would otherwise seem just as inappropriate for the teachers to do (much like the lap dance), then they should realize not only how out of line their actions were, but that they should also pay the consequences as well.

Exactly. Might not lead to termination, but if it did I wouldn't be shocked or feel sorry for those that participated. School districts in our state are looking for reasons to get rid "marginal" teachers due to budget cuts. This would put you right in their line of sight.

Not really. All you need to do is go to any HS prom and you'll see worse. Sad thing is, those parents that are upset with the teachers (I am a teacher btw and am appalled at their actions) condone their children's behavior when at such dances. They go as far as taking pictures, having their daughters hike up their dresses to get a picture of the garter and even allow them to head to the hotel for the after prom party. Seriously, I thought some girls were gonna get pregnant at some of the dances that I have supervised.
