Do you know how to play blackjack?

This is a serious question. I work on weekend as a blackjack dealer for those fake casino parties, and I am amazed on the number of people who who do not know how to play Blackjack, aka 21. Maybe since I just grew up playing cards and what not I assume other people know how. I'm talking anywhere from 20 year old college guys to 50 year old women and men that do not even know that a face card = 10 or an A is 1 or 11.

And I get some people think gambling is wrong/immoral, but still to not even know the basics?

I'll be in Vegas within a month of turning 21, and other members of my family go a couple times of year to Vegas and go out to Shreveport. So I know I am biased thinking people at least have a knowledge

I know how to play, and also know most of the basic strategy (I haven't played in a casino in years, so my edge case percentage plays are rusty)...

I don't really play blackjack seriously though, because it becomes work. All you do is memorize the right play and do what you're supposed to. I enjoy poker much more because there's actual thought and reading the players involved.

Hmm, I didn't know Blackjack and 21 were the same thing. I know the object of the game but not much else.

Nope. Only card game I know how to play is spades, rummy, solitaire, and go fish(lol).

I love playing Blackjack. It's by far my favorite game to play. I know a lot of the basic strategy but, I don't always play "by the book". Sometimes, I'll hit even though the odds say I should stay. I'll try to sit at the end of the table so, I can see what cards people have, if I see a bunch of face cards in a row and I have a 12, I'll take a hit (no matter what the dealer is showing although be advised: playing for yourself and making the wrong calls can really piss off the table). I usually play with my gut. If I lose 3-4 hands in a row, then I'll start doubling (or even tripling) my bets until I win.

Back when I used to play a lot my biggest downfall though was drinking and playing so be careful with that

Never assume anything like that. Just because you family/friends do something doesnt mean everyone does. I know alot of people who dont know any card games and dont see the point. I also know people that will look at you like your blue if you dont know how to play rummy. Its fun to travel the country and see just how different some areas can be from one another.

As for blackjack..... I learned when I was 6 or 7. I know the rules and the basics but never got into it. Also doesnt help I dont really live near a casino......

Most people know how to play 21, but most people DO NOT know how to play it correctly. When you are playing at a table that everyone knows what they are doing, hitting or standing when its appropriate, you can really even the odds.

Before I even sit at a table I have to watch the other people for about 10-15 minutes, One person can F the entire table. It may suck, but sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet and hit on 18 or 19

I've known how to play it for years. I love blackjack. My grandma was big into blackjack and she taught me when I was like 10 lol and I've played it a lot over the years.

I'm going to a casino in 2 weeks and I'm going to hit up the blackjack tables for sure.

Also blackjack IMO is one of the easiest card games to learn and play. I have trouble remembering how to play a lot of card games but blackjack is really easy to me.

Blackjack is the easiest card game on the face of the earth to understand. I get lost trying to understand other card games but I know the general rules and such of Blackjack.

I can't see how some people wouldn't know at least the basics.

I used to play blackjack, even read a few books on strategy.
You might hit a soft 18 or 19 (double down) if dealer is showing 5 or 6 and a lot of 10's are left in the deck.
Splitting 10's can be the right move, under the same circumstances.

Interesting question. Everyone thinks they know how to play blackjack. From personal experience, I can tell you that not everyone actually knows how to play. Just because you can add doesnt mean you understand how to play.
