In Ohio my parents paid almost $400 for driving school. It is a requirement if your under 18, at least it was when I was 16.

It sucked also. We sat in a crappy classroom and watched driver training videos from the 80's with hilarious acting.

After like 2 weeks of classroom we had 8 hours of in-car. Where we drove around in a student driver car in random places. It was extremely boring as my teacher's only words were, "Left turn, right turn, slow down, and stop." I had two 4 hour sessions and it was horrible. One positive is this guy taught me maneuverability very well and I passed it easily on my test.

I have a hilarious story though. This guy in my driver's ed class got busted driving his parent's car on the way to driver's ed LOL. He was speeding and a cop pulled him over. Yea that was awesome.

In Vermont we had Driver's Ed in school. It was a semester long course that met every other day. I don't think any other method makes sense.

How exactly is this going to work?

Let's say you have a 80 year old driver that has never caused an accident in his life or ever received a parking/speeding ticket and fails the driver test because he is nervous, would he lose his liscense?

This looks like age discrimination to me. If we are going this far than I hope the government also goes after young people. I say we raise the age limit for driving up to 25 years old so there would be less cars on the road when I drive and I wouldn't have to worry about all the young idiots that speed.

80 year olds generally have decreased motor and cognitive function that give concern concern over their ability to operate a motorized vehicle. If they fail the test I am sure like a 17 year old they could retake it.

Traffic school is when an instructor takes you out on the road and pretty much try to teach you how to stay within your lanes, change lanes safely, turn properly and all that.

In a major city that crap is hell of dangerous though. Because other drivers don't show no mercy at all, even though the car you drive has a huge bright student driver sign on top of the roof.

I remember I had to take traffice school twice because I use to drift when I drove.

LOL if they raised it to 25............ A LOT of young adults would be without a job then. Because not everybody live in area with public transportation ya know. Driving is the only way they can get to work.

And don't forget you have a good number of people that get cut off from their family when they turn 21 and in some cases 18 and really have to fend for themselves.

I know I got caught off when I was 18 and was told welcome to the real world, you will either sink or swim, but your on your own. If you want or need something, get a job and get it yourself. If you need to get somewhere, you better get there the best way you know how, because I am not taking you.

Exactly. I'm 21 and if I didn't have a car I would be screwed. I was on my own when I was 18 and needed a car to get to work and back. 18 I can buy, but 25? Wow.

Drive through Houston and you will see plenty of folk 25 and up who drive like idiots.

I wish Missouri and Texas would do this. I almost witnessed a major accident today, because an elderly woman was behind the wheel. If the van in front of me hadn't seen her almost run through the intersection, and if the younger passenger didn't tell her to stop, the scene would've been ugly.

Almost all of the traffic fatalities I read about involve teenage drivers and excessive speed and/or alcohol.
Almost no one follows speed limits, except for elderly drivers.

I've had a job, since I was 16. I never would have got the job and I wouldn't have made it there and back, without my license. In some cases, kids get jobs at a young age to help pick up slack on their parents bills and to help purchase things that they want, that their parents really can't afford to buy week in and week out.

It's cool for the ones who have plenty of money in their family, and their parents can drive them everywhere they need to go, but for me.. it would have sucked. Even things as simple as going to have my senior portraits made,would have been difficult to do, if I couldn't have drove myself there.

I'm sure most of you know all of this, I'm just reminding you... so there's not so much 'everyone should wait till age x to drive'. It's not as simple as it sounds
