Best restaurant chain to get a good steak from?
Hi all, I was just thinking how long it's been since I had a good steak so I'm thinking about going for a steak for lunch this Friday. I was wondering what you all might recommend in way of chain restaurants in regards to getting a great steak? My favorite is Outback or Texas Steakhouse probably but they aren't open for lunch here usually so I don't think I'll be able to go there.
Any ideas?Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Went to a Ruth's Chris steakhouse last week, and it was one of the best I've ever had. If you can change your plans from lunch to dinner, I would highly recommend it.MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies

Re: Best restaurant chain to get a good steak from?
All depends on the cook. My best friend was a grill cook at Bonefish Grill. If he was on the line, best steak you ever had. If the other guy was on the line I would order something else. My friend had people come in on days he worked to get their steaks. One regualr customer changed from coming Sundays to Saturdays just for him.
What one outback does is not always the same as the next. Sometimes its a small change in policy, stirct manager, or bad employee. You really just have to go around and find a place you like. Point being it all depends on the cook. (unless you pick a place that serves lower quality of course.)Comment

Question about Ruth Chris - is it formal suit/tie type in there or can you just go in there wearing jeans and a regular shirt? I was going to eat there with friends a few weeks ago but I thought it was a formal eating place so we abstained.
I agree about eating for dinner as opposed to lunch but I don't really eat out much and Fridays here at work we usually go out as a group. I would rather go with the group than go eat by myself somewhere. Plus when I get off work I usually just like to head straight home.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Best restaurant chain to get a good steak from?
Yeah, don't go into Ruth Chris wearing jeans and a t-shirt unless you want to feel like a pariah. At least a button-up shirt and khakis or something along those lines... you could get away with nice jeans and a button-up, but that'd be about it.
The best steak you'll get for the dollar is going to a local butcher/meat market and buying a dry-aged ribeye for about $20-$25/lb and cooking it simply with salt/pepper in a very hot cast iron skillet then finishing it in the oven if necessary. That same steak would be pushing $50 at Ruth Chris. Just my .02 -- I wouldn't call any of the major chains and their beef "quality" since it's factory farmed BS most of the time, even with their high-grade Angus. Ruth Chris has great steaks but you'll be paying out the *** for one of their quality steaks as opposed to just "a steak from Ruth Chris", which is most of the menu.Last edited by Stumbleweed; 03-10-2010, 01:48 PM.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

I was going to say Outback, but you already mentioned them. I can't really think of any other chain restaurants with good steaks.
...now you got my mouth watering for a steak. The last 3 days have been beautiful, I should've cooked some up on the grill. Of course today, when I'm off, it's overcast. Might still have to fire 'er up though.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Yeah, it's not a jeans/t-shirt place. I went after work, and I wear business-casual type clothes, and was fine. Definitely don't need suit/tie type clothes.MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies

Yeah it definitely depends on the cook. The cook can make or break any restaurant.Comment

I see my fellow OSers know their steak. Ruth Chris is definitely THE spot for steak. If you have a Lawry's The Prime Rib in your area (only 5 in the US), that's a good look too.Originally posted by J. ColeFool me one time that's shame on you. Fool me twice can't put the blame on you. Re: Best restaurant chain to get a good steak from?
Texas Steakhouse when I lived in Austin, TX was by far the best steak i've ever had. I will have to get myself dolled up sometime though and try Ruth Chris as I have heard they are the bomb diggity and this thread confirms it.
As someone said, one cooked on the grill sounds great too! Too bad it's raining here for the next few days and I have no grill.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
