Unless you have no stove, cooking your own steak is the way to go... seriously. It's almost idiot-proof if you don't mind the temperature being a little off (until you get good at touching it and telling whether it's done or not). I always make mine medium-rare and just poke them with my finger to tell when they're done, but you can also get a quick-read probe thermometer and take the guesswork out completely. Buy a few cheaper steaks and just work at it until you get it right... I REALLY suggest getting the "touch technique" down if you like cooking steaks.
Amazing steak in 10 minutes of work for less than half the price of going out somewhere. Make a simple salad and bake a potato and it's a very easy meal. All you need is a cast iron pan. Not even that really, I make then in any variety of pan aside from non-stick ones and they turn out fine... but cast iron FTW.
And for god's sake, rest the steak! After it's done to your liking (a little under, actually, since they continue cooking after being removed form the heat), tent it on a plate with some foil to keep it warm and don't touch it for 10 minutes. Marinating is a waste also, it's better to season with sauce after cooking, and even more importantly, a dry steak gets a WAY better sear than one that's been sitting in a wet marinade, and a sear is the key to good flavor and texture. A generous coating of Kosher salt and some pepper if you want is all that you really need for a perfect steak, since steaks are about the meat and not the accompaniments.
Even at an expensive gourmet meat shop with super-premium aged Angus Prime beef, the steaks top out around $30/lb. A pound of a real quality steak is enough for a meal for sure and the quality you get doing that will son the hell out of even Ruth's Chris. You can buy the steaks they serve at other places for less than $9.99/lb most times. Cheap steaks aren't necessarily a bad thing (I avoid them due to factory farming practices) as long as you cook them well and they're decently fatty.
Unless you're buying completely insane Wagyu beef, you can get an un****witable steak for $30 that will destroy anything you buy for $100 at a steakhouse. And if you do have a way to get Wagyu, it will REALLY kill the steakhouses, because it's incomparable.
