Since it's only one student being offended by this, I would tell the parent and student to lighten up a little bit. I would rather this happen than my child failing the class.

Re: N.C. teacher writes 'loser' on assignments
The parents and kid would probably throw a bigger ****fit if they were told they were taking this too seriously.
I think they are, but if they're already offended, telling them to lighten up, even in a nice way, would just lead to bigger problems.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Yeah, I would think that. Some people are just too sensitive sometimes. I wonder if she would rather her child to fail the class than be called a 'loser' when it's just a joke. Back when I was in school, people called people losers just for fun.Comment

Re: N.C. teacher writes 'loser' on assignments
It's pretty much a fact that people today are about 100 times too sensitive.
However, as a teacher, you've got to know that it's stupid to write that on someones paper. I joke all the time with other professor's about stapling a drop slip to their tests, but I'm not stupid enough to do it. Another professor suggested we staple McDonald's applications to their tests. It's just jokes though, we all know not to do it.Comment

Re: N.C. teacher writes 'loser' on assignments
I had a few HS teachers call me stupid, or a loser/punk as a joke and I just laughed it off every time.
I don't think it's a coincidence that those are the teachers that I am still in contact with, that I got the best grades with and enjoyed the classes of the most. With jokes like that (responding to a dumb question with: 'Is that a joke or are you just dumb?' or writing 'Idiotic' as a comment on a paper are two personal examples) I actually laughed and would usually put more effort into the papers/assignments just to see what their next response would be.Comment

This is pretty much a CYA issue. You never know how a kid or parent will over react. Therefore, you'd have to be dumb...err loser, to place yourself in harm's way like that.

That was just wrong. You don't ever know how somebody home life is. What if that girl and fsmily were called dumb all of their lives because of where they lived. You hear something over and over again, eventually you will start to believe it and act that way.Comment

Re: N.C. teacher writes 'loser' on assignments
Eh, I don't know that this teacher was really right (we'd have to observe his class to get a feel for him), but when I was in school I loved the "edgy" teachers who made things a bit more fun and weren't all boring and by the book. Engaged me more, especially when some of the crap was very easy and I'd get bored and stop paying attention.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: N.C. teacher writes 'loser' on assignments
This is exactly what I would do if a teacher did that, I would just try harder just too see what he says next. Too bad no teachers ever called me a loser or ********. If the student really took it that seriously then there might be something wrong. You can't take a teacher seriously if they say something like that.I had a few HS teachers call me stupid, or a loser/punk as a joke and I just laughed it off every time.
