Brian - I think you may have quoted the wrong person beacuse I wasn't the one who posted a post that began down that road. But yeah I replied and called him on it because it really irks me that people on here think they can make these little political digs and hide behind nonsense afterwards by saying they won't go there. His entire post was political while at the same time saying it wasn't. Brian, I'll agree with you - take that junk elsewhere, especially in this thread.

That's a bit over dramatic. Somebody prior said that normal people couldn't afford it. I simply pointed out that they not necessarily be the case now. It was to be taken as a GOOD thing...not something to start a unwarranted and violations causing debate. I had brain cancer and it cost my parent's a small fortune to keep me alive. So let's don't go down that road and assume that you know somebody's intentions in posting.

I lost one grandmother (dad's), a grandfather(mom's) and now probably my best friend to it. I feel you. Just found out that my play-uncle,who just went into submission with Lyphoma, now has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer. I'm sorry for my little rant, but to me this is a very personal issue. To see that this type of tech does already exist, and seems to be like Star Trek-level stuff, makes me have some hope that, just maybe, my friend can hold on long enough to have a shot. I agree with you about taking our shot, I'm not anywhere near a Darwinist. I wonder if the people who view things through that prism will have the same stoic detachment when it's a loved one or themselves?

I know everyone has their opinions but I think people who use the over-populating argument (while it's an interesting thought) have never known someone to pass away due to cancer, AIDS, etc. Once you experience that it can change your view on this.

Could the cancer cells mutate so that this treatment becomes useless (I know nothing about this stuff, LOL)? It seems like we hear about this breakthrough treatments every year, yet nothing significant seems to come of them. I'll wait and see on this one.

i have a friend Battling cancer right now. She's been hospitalized for the last 13 months. She's been through hell and back and is almost beat it again. Still anything can go wrong, but Cancer is brutal. I hope they find a cure for this.

Agreed. There's measures we can put in place to handle it. Restricting the size of families is one way to go.
I don't think anyone should be too upset if you were only allowed to have 2 kids.
That Duggar family from Utah (the one where the wife has treated her vagina like a clown car) would be the perfect example for restrictions on breeding.

Brian, your posts about your friend have moved me to tears. I, too, have been hit hard by cancer in my lifetime. My mother died when I was 7 due to breast cancer. She had earlier occurences of it 2 years prior, and supposedly had it beat. It came back, and it took her from our family. That's why cancer is my most hated thing in the world. It's random, it has no emotion, it does what it wants when it wants. You can seemingly never beat it.

If one person doesn't have to feel the pain of a loss like that that so many have experienced, it's a success. Let the nanobots replicate and take over the world... at least we ****ing tried. I'd rather be terminated by Robot X then sit by a dying person's bedside and be absolutely helpless. Cancer brings about many emotions: anger, sorrow, hope, fight. In the end, it leaves everyone empty because we just could not do one thing to stop the process.

Working with siRNA is a bitch. Not to mention cancer is multifactorial, and every person's cancer is unique, any benefit from this type of research is probably 20 years away.
