    Hawaii

My girlfriend and I are going on a 8 day vacation in Hawaii starting on the 3rd of April. As of now, we doing really have anything planned to do other than relax and enjoy ourselves. Have you ever lived in or been on a vacation to Hawaii? If so, do you have any tips for us, like things to do, places to eat, etc?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

my wife and I went on a a 7 day Hawaiian Cruise of all the islands. I would suggest making it over to the Polynesian Center and go for a Laui. Try some poi (you prob won't like it,but it will be the only time you'll have it.)

try a drink called a volcano its the bomb. get a salad with mango salad dressing best ever. most of all

Enjoy your self, because the plane ride sucks

Hehe.. my fiance and I are going there for our honeymoon in a few months.

Going to Oahu, Maui, and Kauai for a 10 day stay.. doing the Pearl Harbor tour, want to do the "movie tour" on the other island, and my biggie -- swimming with the dolphins

Here is a helpful tip, In Hawaii Pedestians always have the right of way. I swear if you are not paying attention while driving, you will hit someone. I have had more than a few close calls while I lived there.

Go to my Favorite Restaurant in Hawaii, Dixie Grill in Pearl City...YUM

I just moved back to the States from Oahu last month. Here are the things that my wife and I always did when we had friends come in town for the first time. This is all assuming that you are going to be on Oahu. I don't know much about the other islands. You can google all of these things, but if you want help finding them, PM me.

-Drive to North Shore one day, and eat at one of the shrimp trucks. I prefer Macky's, but I haven't found a bad one yet. Also, stop by Matsumoto's for some shave ice while you're up there. It's AMAZING, but get there early. A line forms, and I've seen it get up to two blocks long.

-Don't go to the Polynesian Center Luau unless you enjoy being preached to (it's run by the Church of Latter Day Saints). Check out Paradise Cove instead. They actually serve alcohol there, and it's more about having fun while learning about the local culture.

-Take a sunset dinner cruise. We took two of them, and loved them both. We prefer the Star of Honolulu. Bigger boat, and a lot more fun than the Navitek.

-Pearl Harbor is a must see, but it's under renovation right now, so part of the museum is closed. You can still go to the Arizona Memorial though.

-If you like outdoors, hike Diamond Head. It's less than a mile, but all uphill. It's a nice easy hike. If you want something longer, try the Makapu'u lighthouse trail. It's about 2 miles, but once again, all uphill, and no shade.

-Check out the Halona Cove. It's where they filmed the famous scene from "From Here to Eternity" as well as "50 First Dates" and the old Diamonds are Forever commercials.

-Haunama Bay is incredible. Guaranteed to see some awesome fish if you snorkel out there, and probably some turtles. Get there early though. I've tried going between 11 and 12, and they were closed for capacity.

-If you want a romantic dinner, and aren't worried about price, eat at the Tree Lanai restaraunt.

-If you're not Hawaiian, and don't look Hawaiian, I wouldn't spend too much time on the West Coast. Still a lot of anti-American feelings out there.

-For an awesome driving view, drive the Pali Highway.

Those are the things that we always did with friends, and every one of them loved every minute of it (except the romantic dinner. That was just the two of us).

If you want anymore tips, PM me.

            Re: Hawaii

Went with my girlfriend and it was a lot of fun.

            Just some quick hitters...

One day, rent scooters to ride around. We rented some for the day and rode to Diamond Head and to a spot for parasailing. It was kind of scary at first, because there are so many cars around. But, once you get comfortable, it's a blast racing around on them, as we've never done that before.

Go to a Luau! We had a lot of fun to one we went to. I can't really recall what the name of the one we went to was. But it's an all day event that was a ton of fun. They have a lot of things going on there. The one we went to served alcohol. My biggest advice would be to not be afraid to participate in things they have going on there. I participated in one of their rituals there about pulling in the cast net from the sea. She danced with some of the hawaiian dancers. You also get to learn a lot about the culture there and the food was awesome.

Just be safe, don't be afraid to embarrass yourself, and you should have a great time.

That sounds like Paradise Cove. Was it on the SW corner of the island, at the end of the freeway by the Ko Olina resort (where the NFL stays during Pro Bowl week)?

My wife and I went to Kauai for our honeymoon. If you are looking for a place to just kick back and relax, Kauai is a good island for that. There are a few small towns that you can go and just walk around, grab something to eat, and chill out.

I would also suggest a helicopter tour if you go to Kauai. We took one and it was fantastic. We also took a boat trip up the Na Pali coast and did some snorkeling off of Niihau. It's a full day trip, but it was worth it.

We stayed in Poipu, which is on the south coast, and it was great. I highly suggest Kauai for relaxation.

Cool, you guys gave me some great suggestions. I appreciate it. We're definitely going to try to fit in as much as we can.

I guess my next question is kind of stupid but, I was wondering nonetheless. My question is about attire, Do I need to get a couple of Hawaiian shirt's to wear to Luau's and things like that?

I was decked out. I would wear a Hawaiian shirt, lei, and straw hat to top it off. I took advantage of being able to dress like that. You're on vacation, so just have fun with everything.

I wouldn't go with a Touristy Hawaiian T-Shirt, Dont look like a Tourist. Tourists get taken advantage of, You will want to look like a local.

Here are a couple Spots that you wont find in a Tourist book:

Go to Schofield Barracks(army Base) near Wahiawa, you will have to get a Pass at the main gate, and go to Kolekole Pass. It is one of the best scenic roads in Hawaii and there are Trails where you can see the KoleKole Pass Rock(its a rock where defeated Chiefs were decapitated). If you want to know more about it, PM me.

Ka'ena Point, Its a Popular Muddings spot on Oahu but it has an amazing view everywhere you look.

The Stairway to Heaven, If your a Adrenaline Junky and not afraid of Heights, check this place out...

                          Food:

Maui Mikes Fire Roasted Chicken: Its in Wahiawa, not too far from the Dole Pineapple plantation(check that place out too). The Chicken is 100% all Natural and downright amazing.

Very nice. Plan to do some island hoping---it's pretty inexpensive. They make for fun day trips. If you're on Oahu...they have lots of museums and tourist attractions. The Dole Pineapple farm is kinda cool as well.

Hopefully nothing is erupting when you get there...when I went there was a lot of smog. Still great nonetheless i'd recommend scuba diving of course...going on a helicopter tour and that's about it. You will be able to spend 8 days just relaxing on the beach and doing those 2 things. But if you can get to other islands...I loved Maui, great scuba diving, I'd say better than Hawaii's, and everything had a serene blue pigment to it from the blue ocean...loved it. But Hawaii has the better beaches for sure. There is one hotel on Hawaii..has a top 10 beach in the world...too bad I can't remember the name, but I am sure you can find it.
