Re: Sooooo I locked my keys in the car.

Ok I have a classic story....... I was about 17 at the time

I went to the mall with a friend of mine. As we go in the mall he goes back to the car for something. When we come back out I can see my lights are on.... I dont rembember the specifics, but the car I was driving turned the headlights off automaticly. When he went back to the car it triggered the lights to turn on but not go back off. So yea.... my battery was dead. This is where it gets fun......

I called my mom since she had the spare. We as it turned out she was in the middle of locking her own keys in her car, LOL. She was lucky enough to be at a gas station close to a bunch of dealerships so a mechanic got into her car real quick for her and sent her on her way. She gets to the mall and I proceed to push my car out of the space while my mom was steering with the door open(that turns out to be a huge deal). Well she jumps out of the car to get to hers and she shuts my door...... with the key in the ignition and the doors now locked.

So my car is now in the middle of parking lot isle with the keys locked in and the spare key at home. I send my mother home to get the spare only to realize when shes about halfway home that I dont have a spare key, I have a spare key remote.

In the end we had to call a locksmith. Didnt think of the police and didnt have AAA. I didnt lock the keys in the car but I had to deal with the situation.

Re: Sooooo I locked my keys in the car.

I've never done that, but recently I lost my only key in a bar. My key didn't have a chain or anything I just had it solo. It's a jeep if you've ever seen those keys.

So I had to have another made/given. CAA (ontario) picked me and my car and took me to a jeep retailer. I waited there 45 min and had a new key and it cost 150 bucks (programming it and cutting it) all they needed was the vehicle number. I was actually surprised because my jeep is so basic I didnt think it was possible that it have a chip in the key.

Anyway, I drove the car home and found out that CAA was also going to compensate me for 50 bucks of the key cost!

Having CAA costs like 20 bucks a year....how do they make money? The only other cost I would have had is if the ride to the jeep place was over 10km, then it was like a $1.50 per km over that (chumps change).

Needless to say I'm really happy with CAA, it's really nice to know they've got your back like that.

I've also had a tire explode while driving on the highway (scary),..same thing, they came and changed it in the middle of winter blizzard no questions asked.

Re: Sooooo I locked my keys in the car.

Some funny stories here. I can't drive and so don't own a car so have never done that. I did lock myself out of my dorm room freshman year in college though (was a weekend and roommate was home for the weekend).

Re: Sooooo I locked my keys in the car.

One day while in high school I was leaving first period and stuck my hands in my pockets, my keys were not that. I checked out pockets, looked in locker, checked classroom, nothing. So I just knew I locked them in the car, go outside to the parking lot and yep, keys were in the car, in the ignition, with the car still running...lol

I called my mom and she brought a spare, but for a good hour, the car was running.

Re: Sooooo I locked my keys in the car.

The easiest way to not lock your keys in the car is....

            Don't own a car.

I don't own a car and I can't drive legally for a little over 3 years. (You can get a drivers' license when you are 18 in Finland)
But when I was going to rent a movie with my mom and with my bro, bro was the last to come out of the car like minutes later than I and mom, and when mom asked did he lock the doors he said yes and then she said to my bro to give the keys to her, then my bro said that he left it in the car. So there we were for a couple of minutes and then my mom went to a lock-shop next door the movie rental shop and there came this guy and he opened the door with some cool tool.
And the worst part of this was that we didn't rent any movie
I'm a finn so don't be surprised if I spell words wrong.
