I lean toward countryboy's way of thought. Fear is a powerful tool that can be used to influence large masses of people. This goes for terrorists, politicians, etc.

He wasn't implying that we fear them, I will never let those bastards instill fear in me, and neither should any American. That's just what they want, to terrorize. Knight was just saying we need to not fear them but remain vigilant, he's right we can't ever become complacent and let out guard down, that's how 9-11 happened.

I am damn glad Al Qaeda failed again, and I feel blessed to live in a safe country. We have really kept them at bay since 9-11, and hopefully it continues.

The question of a Security State and Liberty always makes me think of Israel. That's the major extreme as that place is pretty open but it's also very much a Security State in that everything is highly regulated when it comes to safety and such. I think that's the question we should ask ourselves. Do you want to live in a society where EVERYTHING is scrutinized to the point that your pursuit of liberty and freedom is checked out at every turn.

It's worked for Israel but it's something that I can't see ever working in North America. This is why there's always some push back against laws that on the face of it seems pretty good but it can also be used in nefarious ways. There has to be a median between having Big Brother over your shoulder and a pre 9/11 world. We're never going to live the way we did on 9/10/01 but we shouldn't clamp down to the point that we feel burdened.

It's a insanely difficult issue and I feel for those who have to weigh these things out. That's why when I hear people scoff at Al Qaeda or terrorism in general I shake my head because if there's anything we've learned is that we must remain vigilant but free.

Am I the only one that was slightly concerned that 2 people could sneak through Secret Service into a dinner with the president? What if they had been a "Mr and Mrs. Smith" couple?

I repeat, you do not fix terrorism through your domestic policy. Terrorism stems from your foreign policy. Not that hard of a concept to understand, folks.

I was only talking about the efforts made on the homefront. I didn't touch on the foreign policy aspects because that'd easily become political. That being said i'll say I like the direction of the US foreign policy at this time.
