Prison Inmates Pedal for TV Privileges

    Notible quote:

Arpaio explains, "If an inmate slows down and fails to pedal fast enough, an audible noise sounds off to warn inmates that the TV is shutting down." He says, "Peer pressure will have them pedaling, at least right up to the commercial breaks."

I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....

Sounds like something straight out of a cheesy movie. But I have to be honest, it's really not that bad of an idea....

They should be pedaling to power my electricity. Now that's redeeming yourself to your country.

I wonder if this would fly in any other prison.

Its Not a bad idea really, Incentives are really the only way to keep the Prison Populace active and not rioting.

I can ssee it right now an inmate gets beat to death because they didn't pedal fast enough and lost the TV.

I'm all for sticking them in a small cell and simply feeding them and letting them read books. They should be able to exercise within the confines of their cell.

Prison should not be a place people don't mind going repeatedly, which is currently the case.

If you want them to work make them work off the amount of money they owe to taxpayers for their stay in prison.

Where is the stats that says prior inmates dont mind going back to jail?

Dont pay taxes if you dont like how its being spent..

And end up like one of those inmates peddling to watch TV? That makes a whole lot of sense.

I'm all for finding ways to cut down on costs of running prisons for taxpayers. I think they should be required to do manual labor that pays off their stay in prison. I think it should suck... hard.

Making them pedal for TV should be one of many "self sustaining" opportunities the prison gives prisoners.

They shouldn't get cable TV without paying for it... just like me. They shouldn't get fed 3 square meals without paying for it... just like me.

                      You get the idea.

Some have inmates doing manual labor...

Most likely they did pay for cable...

What if an inmate doesn't have any money in the bank when they get locked up? And if an inmate is in prison for 5,10, 20, 30, 40, 50, years etc, taxpayers are paying for their cable and meals. That adds up to a lot.

                              There are jobs in jail

If I'm not mistaking, I think every week or so, they get to "shoping" whether its food or whatever...Not sure if its EVERY prison but some works that way...

                              Friends/Family send inmates money..

They get meals, But I think its once a day(not sure) other than that meal, they pay for their own food/snacks..

Oh and in Federal Prison, inmates pay a monthly bill/fee

I dont think Tea and a Ham sandwhich cost that much, if anything most of tax payer's monies are going to into the facility..
