Have alway been known as the quiet one. At work I'm talkative because I'm in leasing and sales so it's my job and have been doing it for many years. So when I'm out with people I've met through work they are usually surprised at how quiet I am. I guess I'm just more comfortable as a listener than a talker. Way I've been all my life.

I've always been a quiet person. I am far more comfortable listening to others and gleaming information that way however, if you get me on a topic i'm passionate about I can be quite the talker.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Are You Talkative or A Man (or woman) of Few Words?
I think I'm an introvert and a man of few words. My job requires that I talk a lot and after a day of work I do feel kind of zapped. I have my moments where I can be really talkative and others where I'm dreadfully quiet. It also depends on who I'm around as well, I've made an effort try to talk a lot more if I'm with people who are really outgoing/extroverts.
Small groups though I'm always talkative (whether I know people or not) in large ones I've never really done well.Comment

Re: Are You Talkative or A Man (or woman) of Few Words?
Man of few words. I could go a full day without talking probably. When I was in high school I routinely did it, from the 45 minute bus ride to school, through the 7 hours of school and the 45 minute bus ride home without mouthing a word.
I despise small talk and it always makes me feel like I'm wasting my time.
Probably has something to do with the fact I don't really care about other people's business or have much in common with most people. I try to hold myself to a higher standard.Originally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing? No one can seem to kill the right one.Comment

Re: Are You Talkative or A Man (or woman) of Few Words?
That's just such a foreign concept to me: prefering not to talk at all to having small talk.
Sure, there are times I just don't feel like talking because I'm tired or I'm preoccupied, but I'm typically up for any conversation. I mean, how do you get into those "legitimate conversations" with people if you're not having small talk at first? How do you make friends that you're comfortable with and are comfortable with you enough to have a deeper conversation?
I'm not picking on you, so I apologize if I'm coming off as a d-bag. I'm just curious what makes you tick.Originally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing? No one can seem to kill the right one.Comment

But aside from that, I'm just not a big talker. Parties, jumping from person to person with small talk? Not my forte. I'm just a much better listener than I am talker and I prefer to listen than to talk.
Small talk is just awkward to me if I don't know a person real well. There's only a handful of people that I can just talk with for long periods of time without even thinking about it.

Beats me. The thing about small talk is that somebody always has to carry the defibrillator. Maybe I'm not so good with small talk but I hate having to try to keep it going. Sure, I'll participate in it and yes, it is a step to having conversations with people who are comfortable in your presence, but to me it's not high on my priority list. And sometimes if I feel I'm fairly comfortable around someone, I'll just jump right into a deep subject. Or I might even bring up something as small talk that I know will evolve into a real conversation.

I'll talk to anyone about anything really. I find it pretty easy as long as the other person doesn't clam up and not talk at all.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
